Well done for capturing Craig in the gravel trap. It is the sort of thing you could wait all event for, and when it happens you miss it or the camera is not ready.

Enjoy the race, I do not know if I will turn on the television to watch the ads and miss the action.

While the cars may go fast, they certainly chew through the fuel. What I can't understand is it takes me about 5 minutes to put fuel in the car and a similar amount of time (if I am set up) just to change one wheel, yet these guys do it in under 5 seconds (F1) and under a couple of minutes in V8's and that can include brake pad change!

These drivers have more friends than us, 2 blokes at each wheel and a darn site bigger fuel hose, plus they don't have to join the queue to pay for their fuel! Also helps that the helpers are a fair bit younger than us, and a lot more agile than I am these days.
I also managed to get a few shots of Simona de Silvestro in the Nissan heading towards me in a cloud of dust, Johnny on the spot sort of a thing.

The blower on that green thing puts a block of flats to shame! How the hell would you see round a left hander Seeing the picture of the John French Falcon reminded me of watching GTHO's chasing XU1's around Amaroo Park - drifting before drifting became a separate category! I don't think you would be very popular with the neighbours if you started that thing in the early hours of the morning.
It was a busy race in the last 40 laps or so, very dramatic, I was sorry to see the Volvo get taken out right in front of my viewing spot.

I watched the first hour on the TV then had to go out for a bit. Then I watched the last hour. Top race! I've never seen the great race track side but in the mid '80's I went with a mate to see the superbikes go round in the Aust. GP. I took my newish Nikon camera and zoom lens with me and rattled off a couple of rolls of film. As to be expected I got lots of shots of the front wheel or the rear wheel but seldom the whole bike and rider in the frame just due to the speed these guys went past. I did end up with a couple of really good ones of Wayne Gardiner flying along though. Great day.

Hi to you all,
Yes, a bit upset, as I think, whoever took out the Volvo & themselves did it Professionally.
My hopes were with the V as I thought in the shoot out, the driver didn't have as much trouble taking on the Circuit as the others did, & only beaten by a fraction.

"Get that Swedish brick out of the road" .... How the times have changed....

It wasn't a good end for McLaughlin as he'd driven a good race....
It was interest hearing Skaife commentary on the TV about how many incidences & other crashes have been caused by the "redress rule"...

I think the pics I shot were all on slides and are probably buried in my archives ...

Yes, I know what you mean. Ken Warby used to live just past Amaroo Park back in the days he broke the world water speed record. We lived one gully over about 4Km away as the crow flies. On the rare occasions that he cleared it with the neighbours to start the thing up we had no trouble hearing it! A bit like being in the stands at the drags, you feel it as much as you hear it.

I recall Dick Johnson referring to the Volvo of the day as a 'Hillman Hunter with a railway sleeper at each end'.

And the winner was ???? second was ???? third was ????
Might have been some other makes in the race too

Had a great time on the hill, even with the ridiculously early start to stake out a good spot.

Did you see the Army's hotrod do a lap before the race? Did sound quite impressive and layed down quite a lot of rubber across the top..

I saw the Army's vehicle display in the pits, but only took a photo of one the beasts for some reason. It looks like I missed out in seeing the hotrod, I think I was trying to do too much - watching the tele in the hotel room and running out to the front when something interesting seemed to be happening.
I've recorded the whole channel 10 telecast, just starting to plow through it all, partly to see how it compares with the Foxtel broadcast we had in the hotel. Hopefully the hotrod will feature in the telecast.
Good job you weren't on the mountain this morning, it was very windy, and heaps of tents and tarps were blowing away in all sorts of directions.
Traffic was a bit of a nightmare on the way home.
