Goggomobil
Hi all,
Been sometime since I reported on the progress of my Goggomobil restoration.
yep still working on the chasis .. Underbody steel work. I might have posted on welding previously ... I've fitting and played with new floor panels but not welded .. Will do once I have preped
ok ok here's the drum ... I'm sure most restorers have faced this issue ... Wire wheel, blast, clean, rust converter, clean, etch, prime and paint. ... .... Most of the under body and steel work has surface rust .. Not huge for a 60 y old micro car.
Im looking at the different treatments and underbody paints and preps ..... bit confusing ..

Not sure if it's still available ,but we use to use fish oil ,quite a bit it came in an aerosol can .
Was excellent for spraying into cavities extra .
But only once all other paint work is done .and don't use it as a deodorant lol
3m spray bituman quite a lot to when I was panel beating .
Sticks very very well to everything lol.
Hope this helps .
Matt .

When I was restoring my Valiant S about 30 years ago I used a spray on bitumen. It came in a can and you just connected the air line to it and sprayed away. I did all the underside and inside guards etc as well as the boot. It worked a treat but you had to be careful and mask up what you didn't want covered.

lots of info
Guys
thanks for the posts ... Always helps to get the old grey matter working ...
I looked at the usual stuff at Bunos, Supercheap, some automotive paint mobs, ......
I read lots of stuff last night ... It's hard to get a simple set of guide lines on the different products and the processes ... Eg engine bay, underbody, guards, internal flood, rust prevention, hidden sections ...
I guess im obsessing because I've pulled this Gog right down and want a good result without rust and rework.
Im not doing a concourse thing just something that looks good and is functional...
im going out today to get some more info .. I'll keep you posted ... Will post some pics ..

Goggomobil T300 - The Limosine (Sedan)
Alan
sorry it's a T300 Goggomobil Sedan .. In Germany they call they the Limosine .. How odd is that... In the foreground is my Dart (she'll). Isn't she a beauty !!! Also a Goggomobil ...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goggomobil#T_sedan
but it I see what you mean ... I'd never heard of the Loydd ... Had to Google it ..... A great read .. Also went to the Loydd link to the German Loydd ... Not related to the English Loydd ...
The T300 nic name is Frosty because when we were transporting her from Melbourne in the middle of winter stopped somewhere and woke up and she was covered in Frost...
I have three Goggos I am restoring ... Nic names Gary, Frosty and Elvis the Dart....

In the late 60's, one of the apprentices I worked with was restoring a Loydd, and the name has stuck with me ever since. He was a tall lanky bloke, never did work out how he fitted into such a small vehicle. My Dad had a Vauxhall Victor in the early 60's, and often stirred Mum up by threatening to replace it with a Goggomobile, mainly because it would leave more room in the garage.
Great memories, thanks for sharing your restoration project.

This is the place for protective paints http://www.por15.com/
We put an 850cc motor in the back of a Dart when I was a lad and hill climbed it.CHRIS
