GS750 Suzuki
This is a mid 70s Suzuki GS750 I built up. I bought it off a bloke I worked with in the early 80s as a wreck, if the bike wouldn‘t start, he‘s punch the tank, as you can see the tank is a bit of a mess. From memory I think I paid $200 for it..
After stripping and checking everything, I replaced the cam chain and the rings, all other internal were in really good condition, but externally it was a heap . The reason it wouldn‘t start for the tank puncher: the vacuum tube that operated the fuel tap was blocked!.
I painted the crankcase, barrels head in flat black, the frame, tank (not in picture) side covers and other bits and pieces in gloss black and added red pin striping to side covers and rear tail. Engine side covers, forks hubs, basically anything alloy was buffed up on the polisher and the seat re covered using my treadle Singer. The chrome work had rust spots all over. I tried different metal polishes, buffing rouge, all manner of things to remove the spots, all to no avail; but, amazingly a quick rub with Amway metal polish removed all rust and brought all the chrome up to a nice shine, good stuff that. Obviously I did a lot more work than that on it, but that’s the gist of it.
I rode most of the 70s ‘super bikes’ but I think the GS750 was the best of them - a very under rated bike: nice to ride, nice to work on, nice to look at and handled respectably. Almost as good as a BSA, Triumph, Norton, Matchless, AJS, Arial, Douglas, well you get the picture!
Used this as a daily hack for a couple of years and then sold it and bought a heap of Honda Boldor rubbish.- couldn‘t even bring myself to take a picture of it and couldn’t get rid of it fast enough!Sit down comedian.
