1989 black Honda CRX SiR (Japanese import) - First car, learnt to drive on it (it really forces you to learn how to shift well). 160hp (from 1.6L), 1030kg and 8000rpm redline made it an insane amount of fun on winding roads and it held its own off the line too; kept toe-to-toe with a supercharged, series 2 VZ S. The gearing is too short for freeway use though, it sits at 4k rpm in 5th at 100 km/h . Currently sitting on 205k kms, still going strong. I can't bring myself to let it go even though I probably should.
2003 yellow Honda S2000 - My dream car since I was about 12 years old, finally got one at the beginning of the year. 9k redline, dual 4" exhaust = LOUD even with the silencers in, but I could never get tired of listening to it scream all the way up. European performance, Japanese price.

It goes without saying that all the vehicles improved as time went on. As a general rule I've found all vehicles, even back in the '60s were reliable. The big changes have been in rust prevention and creature comforts. When I first started driving, a heater and radio were extras and not many cars had them. I didn't see my first air conditioner till 1969. Now my Lexus has two key fobs that automatically adjust the 10-way seat adjustment, steering wheel tilt and reach and external mirrors depending on which fob is used to start it. And cruise control that automatically maintains a set distance between you and the car in front regardless of what speed it's doing, and applies the brakes if you get too close. I doubt anyone could even have imagined that forty years ago...

Hi Sacc, The Toyota Blizzard was also available in another guise. The mighty Daihatsu "Scat". (Ironic that scat is another name for pooh!).
The Daihatsu Scat however had a 2.8 litre diesel engine and a 5 speed gearbox.
I had this little ripper for about 11 years as my only car. Never washed it once however always serviced the motor. These ones also had rust attractant built into them. Lichen also grew really well on the windscreen.
Sold it when it was just getting too embarrassing to drive anymore. Yep someone did buy it.
I'd give it a 10 out of 10. Paid 3.5 grand for it and sold it for 800 bucks.

Yep the Poo and the Fizzard were the same except for the motors. They had an interesting shelf under the front guards to the rear which collected mud. After a while the moisture would eat through the shelf and leak water onto your right foot. Another interesting feature: sometimes the seam in the roof gutters would leak, the result was that water would collect in the channel inside and slosh around. If you braked suddenly the water would slosh forward and wash the inside of the windscreen for you, not to mention your lap.

1981 Falcon XD, 351 V8, 5 speed manual. My first car so also the best. The sound..........
1996 Falcon EF, Futura. Reliable but nothing special.
1995 Falcon BF, XR6. Also reliable but nothing special.
2010 Falcon FG, XR6 50th anniversary, easily the best Falcon i've owned (apart from the XD) reliable, quiet, smooth and excellent economy. Probably shouldn't have sold that one.
2014 Mazda3, SP25GT. Excellent car, 6 speed manual so a fun sporty drive. All the safety and luxury mod cons.
1996 Toyota Hilux 2.8 diesel N/A (daily). Very reliable (currently 380,000km) but sooooo slooooow. Just not geared for freeway cruising.
My wife has had a 1998 Mazda 323 Astina (great reliable car) and currently a 2005 Mazda3.
I am currently hitting my mid-life crisis so am yearning for my old XD 351 again. I still know the bloke that I sold it to 18 years ago and was recently re-aquainted with it. The fire still burns bright for it. With some luck it might find a home back in my garage.
Steven.

My list is nothing really startling.....
Dad had a 62 model EK that I learned to drive in. Boy that was a dog of a car. Then I saved up once I was working...
EH Holden sedan
72 Corona 1600cc (bought it new and had it for 16 months then traded it on a
71 HT Station Wagon, it had a Tri-matic auto gearbox and a 186 power house (not) but was only a conveyance
76 Land Cruiser Table Top Petrol. Bought new Had a lot of fun in the bush but 13MPG was expensive to run
In 1980 when we got married the wife had a 180B Datsun 1977 model. We traded it for
1980 Subaru 1800 Station Wagon. Now that was a great car in many ways. Started to build our house so sold it to buy the windows for the house
1983 Landcruiser Wagon Diesel (now that was very cheap to run in 1988 when we bought it
Sold the Table Top because I had a company vehicle. Bought a concrete water tank for the house
1988 Camry Station Wagon Bought it in 1999. Cooked 2 motors.
1995 VS Commodore bought in 2000 Still got it but its days are numbered
Still got the Cruiser. Just love it. 450000Ks. Drags the 3m X 1.5m box trailer. A bit slow on long trips but we always get to where we want to go. It got new paint and upholstery and general tidy up
I did like the Table Top as well but it had its limits but the Cruiser Wagon still delights me when I am in itJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

1971 Kingswood - I was 17, it looked like a "grandad" car. the cops left me alone.
1969 Ford Falcon station wagon - I was 19, it looked like a "grandad" car. the cops left me alone.
197? Valiant sedan - Yeah I know, but I needed a car for five months between overseas Army postings and it was cheap and the cops left me alone.
1977 Datsun 180b SSS coupe - I was old enough by then to look responsible and had short hair in an era when all the louts had long hair. The cops left me alone and the chicks gravitated to it. Bought out of the winnings from one good night of Jackpot Poker.
1981 Commodore Sedan - Time to start a family
1973 Kingswood sedan - came as a package deal with the wife (car died after two years, wife lasted another 13)
Mitsubishi L300 express - family growing and expanding
1990 Toyota hi-ace 14-seater minibus - big enough for our kids, a full load of daycare kids the wife looked after and still big enough to pick me up from work.
Ford Maverick - the only half-decent Ford I ever owned (re-badged Nissan). Needed to tow big trailers for my business when I got out of the Army
Mini Moke - My cheap economical car to run around in for business when not towing trailers - doing quotes, running kids to school etc.
Nissan Patrol - All the advantages of the Maverick without the Ford badge
2003 Rodeo 4WD dualcab ute - Didn't need the heavy towing capacity any more but still wanted the 4WD for fun.
2007 Rodeo 4WD dualcab ute - replaced previous Rodeo, written off when idiot with no brake lights slammed on brakes when the light went yellow and he was already in the intersection.
1994 Rodeo 2WD dualcab ute - Insurance company tried to shortchange me on the previous vehicle so I bought a $2000 "bomb" to get around in for a couple of months while I negotiated with them. Intended to use as tradein as soon as I got the payout, but it was a good reliable economical car so I kept it for 18 months and got $3000 for it as a trade-in.
2010 Colorado 4WD diesel dualcab ute - Currently parked in the driveway.I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

That's quite a list! I agree that the V6 Capri was 'one of those cars', and I would be quite happy to have a Datsun 1200 ute. I owned a Datsun 1000 2 door sedan, boy that was fun, especially on dirt roads. I tried to fit a 1200 motor into the 1000, but it wasn't very successful, too many problems and not enough time to sort them out. These days, I just add windscreen washer water, that's about the extent of my fiddling with cars now.
