    Let me see... throbbing V8

    Say a 351-2V Windsor V8, 240 hp @ 4600 rpm

That's 7.4 litres to produce 178 kw.... wooooowwwww!!!

About the same as a Honda CRV.

Now if we were to compare Apples with Apples, and sadly the Merc only goes to 6.5 litres, so at about 80% of the capacity of the throbbing V8 the standard road going unmodified AMG 65 Merc purrs to measly 612hp.

    Throbbing indeed!!

Well I drove a GTHO a wee bit,
it must have only seemed that it went a tad better than a honda

A GTHO feels like a 747 on the runway at takeoff

It's funny that, there was an episode of TopGear that featured a performance test between a couple of supercars of the 70's and I think it was a Honda Civic. No prizes for guessing the outcome on accelaration and handling!

Nothing is as it seemed back then!

But of course the GTHO did look pretty flash compared to the 40hp VW's racing against it in the Armstrong 500 eh Bob?

    Cheers,

    P

    Midge,
    351 cubic inches = 5.8 litres (approx)

And in retrospect that's pretty much how they handled too!

Ok lets race up a hill towing a loaded trailer... the 351 actually has torque a thing riceburning Honda's dont have and never will have.
What if raced a CRV against a Detomaso Pantera?(a 351)
