RaceWars in W. A.
Hi everyone,
I have entered two of my BMWs in RaceWars in Wyalkatchem 2015. It is 1km dragrace on the airfield with 500mtrs of slowdown - all tarmac. Takes place April 10-12.
I would like to think I will get 220kph out of my road cars with minimal modification. Owner Manual top speed quoted at 240kph.
If you go, come up and introduce yourself. You cant miss me - The old bald bloke with two white BMWs and a big grin!!Good; Fast; Cheap. Pick any two.

Started the prep of the vehicles. The E34 is getting the interior repaired and then the ends and mains changed. The head has to go back to the reconditioners as the c/r is too high.
Knocks on Avgas!
The E38 only needs a wash, polish and an oil change.
Now I need to secure either a mobile home or caravan for the week-end.Good; Fast; Cheap. Pick any two.

Thanks rod1949 - nice to know. I drove over there last weekend and checked it all out. Strip is smooth and the return road good. Caravan park a bit basic but OK for two nights. One car will be driven there, the other towed on a trailer. The towing veh will double as a campervan. Please introdue yourself. I'll be the old bloke with a big grin and two white BMW's.
The E34 interior is coming along nicely, might even be ready for the engine tweek after the week-end. The E38 is waiting in the wings. Passenger seat to come out. Will save about 50kg and give me a place for the fire ext I have to carry.Good; Fast; Cheap. Pick any two.

I went with my two cars and drove as hard as they would go. Didn't come last or break anything. Had an absolute BALL and made some contacts with young blokes I hope will become friends. Most important Ms Hercus71 loved it and wants to arrive a day or so earlier and leave a day or so later next year. Works for me! The daughter wants to enter her Mach 1 Mustang with me next year (dual entry) as well as me entering my E32.

I'm assuming you have the V12, going on your quoted 240 km/h top speed, although I understood the V12 E32 to do 250 km/h as a set of German registration papers of one I used in Germany about 26 years ago had that speed designated as the top speed, which it must do. In fact they were restricted to 250 km/h as I understand it, sort of a gentleman's agreement back then in Germany. Not so these days, but Autobahn driving is severely restricted by traffic density these days, spent two months driving around Germany last year and we really noted it was hard to traverse much faster (generally) than 170 km/h to 190 km/h with 170 reasonably easy to get to and sort of maintain on unrestricted Autobahns.
Anyway, what I was really wanting to know, how fast did you get it (them) up to?
Mick.

Hi Optimark,
I raced my E34 535 (3.5ltr I6) and my E38 735 (3.5ltr V8). The results are on racewars.com.au. I got got about 145kph in both over the 400mtr, about 173kph on the 800mtr on the Saturday. On the Sunday there was a 25kph headwind witch killed me to about 176kph on the 1000mtr run. I was generally in the last 6 at any course length. But not last.
Top speed for the day was 322kph - an Australian record.
The speeds I quote for my vehicles are from the handbook and are low enough for me to be able to compete on 'V' rated tyres.Good; Fast; Cheap. Pick any two.

Many thanks for the speeds, interesting. I don't know why, but somehow I was thinking you had an E32. Probably my memories being mixed up with my reading your posts.
Many German automobiles are quite fast, but not too many of them get there super quick.
Mick.
