Default usefull info when buying new

I went to buy a new car (from a yard) last week and came away feeling like sh*t as they "low balled" me big time, so I went home and jumped on the PC googling the finer aspects of buying a new vehicle.

Found this and studied it (fair bit of info) came away with a greater understanding from both sides.

Went to 2 other dealers today, one wouldn't budge. the next one - I walked in and said I would like to buy this vehicle, and away we went, nice easy transaction.

They wanted my business because they had new cars sitting in the yard, and it was the last day of the month, I said to them you have another month of finance on that car as of tomorrow - that helped a LOT!

Drove away with a nice new car, with more money in my pocket than the first dealer offered me, so I hope it helps someone understand buying cars can be fun.

If they low ball you, just walk out, because there are dealers out there that want your business - big time.

Correct. They think they are playing a clever psychological game, but the world has moved on. The consumer has the ability to be more informed than at any time before, instantly.

We learned that lesson many years ago when purchasing an 80 series Landcruiser wagon. Overall we ended up near $10k better off by selling our Subaru touring wagon privately to a used car outfit in another town instead of a trade in with the local dealer, and went to Brisbane to pickup the new LC wagon. Ever since we have been "opportunity" purchasers, we decide what we want then wait for the right deal to present itself. Doesn't always work for popular makes and models that sell well.
