Bluetooth Devices
Hi All,
I recently purchased a new guitar amplifier and have been surprised that the rest of the family are not keen on listening to said guitar amplifier. So headphones seem to be the way to go. The amplifier has ability for headphone connections so all good there.
Now to help cut down on the number of cables I was trying to work out a way to be able to utilise bluetooth headphones.
I have one of these: https://www.blackstaramps.com/uk/products/tonelink which is a bluetooth receiver, however this isn't much good as it will not send the signal from the amp. I can plug standard headphones into it and receive a bluetooth signal from it, which is handy as I would not have to buy headphones with inbuilt bluetooth.
So I will need to get a bluetooth transmitter to send the signal from the headphone out of the amp to the headphones. There seem to be a few options on Ebay. Now the question - I have only Bluetoothed before with devices that can find and select the bluetooth device, eg. phones, computer, ipads etc.
In my scenario, with the bluetooth transmitter and the bluetooth receiver, how do you pair the two devices together?
I'm guessing that the receiver has some way of identifying an incoming bluetooth signal and can pair without having the ability to select it from a list.
Cheers

I bought a cheaply Bluetooth transmitter for my stereo and pair it to my iPhone
The transmitter just has a name (H33) that I search for and pair to
I would assume that your scenario would be similar

The ones I have dealt with are used in micro controllers and to get started have been communicable (ie connect physically or blue tooth) via either a computer or a mobile phone/tablet
This enables
a) setting the device as slave or master and
b) a master to pair with a slave or another master.

I have a bluetooth soundbar and a bluetooth vinyl record player. Both of them have a button you hit to enter "pairing mode". It causes a light to flash/blink/turn a different color and with both devices in pairing mode they just find each other. You don't necessarily need a display where you select anything, you just make sure that there isn't a third device trying to pair simultaneously in the same area.
Does that answer your question? Am I understanding it appropriately?

Perfect .... thank you all.
Yes Luke that was the basic question in my round about way. Everything I have pared to date has had at least once of the devices with a screen when you can find and select the paring device. In this scenario neither has a screen so they would have to find and select each other.
I will grab a transmitter/receiver combo off Ebay and give it a try.
Cheers

Let us know how you go Stinky. I am looking for a similar set up so I can watch TV after SWMBO goes to bed.

Will do. I ordered a Bluetooth receiver last night to see what I could get to work.
I have noticed however during my experimentation that when I plugged my headphones into a Bluetooth receiver and paired with my laptop, there was a slight, but noticeable delay when watching YouTube videos.
This would likely be the same with the tv where sound is slightly behind the video. Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

Sorry .... yes I did get one.
I got a transmitter / receiver off Ebay and plugged it into the guitar amplifiers headphone out. I tried to pair it with the cheap pair of bluetooth headphones that I purchased but they didn't find one another.
Next I tried the other BT receiver that I had and just plugged in normal headphones. This receiver paired with the transmitter and the guitar amplifier sound was transmitted to the headphones. Trouble was however the time delay, so I would play a note and then hear it an uncomfortable time afterwards - not ideal. This was a similar delay experienced when pairing with the laptop and trying to watch a YouTube video.
I was planning on trying it out on the TV but would conclude that the delay will be enough to make it frustrating. It's fine if you are just listening to audio but not great when lining up with video. Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Thanks for the feedback. I might ask at JB and see if they can suggest something.

I was talking to a friend today who is in the same situation as me, does not want to disturb others while watching TV late at night. He recommended these, they get mostly good reviews with no complaints of "lag". One person complained that he couldn't find the noise cancelling option, they are not noise cancelling headphones so I wouldn't pay much attention to his review.

I was looking into Bluetooth transmitters recently for a friend. Found some advertise as low latency specifically mentioning tv sound. Worth some more investigation

I spent a little (well a lot) more that I intended and purchased a set of these at JB this morning. Had a quick listen and they are fantastic. The reason I went for these ones as they are digital and the transmitter does not have to be unplugged from the audio out to hear the TV normally. Very happy with them, and so is SWMBO.
