Default Problems connecting to the internet

Generally I run my PC non stop and only turn it off when required i.e. updates, or installing new software.
For quite a while now after rebooting I have trouble connecting to the internet. Troubleshooting always blames faulty LAN cable. Even after swapping the cables several times I still get the message. Eventually I end up getting connected, this seems entirely random when connection is made. I have checked my network adapter driver and it is up to date. Could the adapter itself be faulty? I cannot seem to find a diagnostic tool for checking it.

NBN, but I don't think that is the issue. Everything with the NBN box is okay, and all the lights on the router show activity. It's between the computer and the router where the problem lies. I'll do a reboot and grab a screenshot to show it better.

Okay, it took two reboots and a hard reset to get connected this time. While I didn't have internet connection on the PC I could access the internet on my laptop, iPhone and iPad. All these devices were using wifi, only the PC is connected via a cable to a network port. This is why I believe the problem is in the network adapter.

Next time, open a command prompt, type ‘ipconfig /all’ and post the output.

I had to restart my PC this morning and again I had trouble connecting to the internet. Luckily I took Peter's advice and got a details of the ipconfig with the internet working and not working.

This means your adapter is not communicating with the DHCP server (your router) along with the screen shots you attached you would suspect the cable first (already replaced) I would look at the rj45 jack in the adapter on the computer and the router (the jack the network cable plugs into) You might try plugging the cable into a different port on the router , the adapter could be failing but that is not real common. You may have the option of connecting the computer via wifi (not the best option but an option) You might also want to ping 127.0.0.1 That checks the ip stack on your computer, if it fails you have limited the possible failure to the software or hardware on your computer (eliminating anything on the network as a problem (sorta) Another possible problem could be a duplicate ip address. Are you sure the ip address of the computer is unique? According to your previous entry the current ip address of your computer is 192.168.0.94

When not working it shows Ethernet adaptor is not connected.
Since you have already tried changing cables I would try another interface on you internet router.

Sorry guys, I should have mentioned earlier that I have tried different sockets on the router. This, combined with trying different cables makes me think that the adapter is playing up. The adapter is part of the motherboard which is probably 10 years old.

For $15 this could be worth a try.

For $15 it is worth a go. As long as you have a spare slot with a PCIe connector in the computer.

Are you sure all the cables you tried are good working straight through cables?

Further to the dhcp point. Have you enabled dhcp on the Ethernet adapter or are you using a static IP.

If it’s not selected, set the adapter to use dhcp

Motherboard too old for PCIe card so went for this one, same price. About to install it, wish me luck.

Well done. My day (& unfortunately sometime nights/weekends) job is a network engineer. Used to the pc & server guys always blaming the network.
You made it easy by having tried cables & switch/router ports.

Thank you for your help Pete.
I am a fitter & turner by trade and spent my last years in the trade doing maintenance/service work on CNC machinery. I've had a lot of experience faultfinding and learn't early on to only change one thing at a time otherwise you soon loose track of where you are.
