    Default Problems with cordless mouse

The cursor movement on my desktop PC has become very jerky and erratic lately, I've tried a couple of new batteries and in the mouse that didn't make any difference. Running Win 7, the keyboard is behaving normally.
If I move the mouse to and fro quickly the problem goes away for a while, but eventually the cursor movement becomes jerky again.
    Any ideas anyone?

Might as well just go and buy a new one, they're cheap enough.

Nothing has changed, the dongle is still plugged in to the same USB port, there is no dust or hair on the sensor.

Has it got a mechanical roller in it that rolls on the desk? If so pull it out, clean the roller and the three rollers inside the mouse. if it has not got a roller clean the desk surface really well, I don't know why but the condition of the desk top affects mine. The laser lens on the non roller types needs to be clean as well. That used to be a good trick to play on someone, a piece of sticky tape over the lens.

Other than recommendations already made ...Might be worth checking if you have any background processes consuming gobs of CPU ..

Okay, so I plugged the dongle in to one of the USB ports at the front of the PC and it worked fine. I then plugged it in to a different USB port at the back and it became jerky again. I've got it plugged it to a front port now and everything is working well.
This is one of the things that p!$$es me off about computers, some piece of hardware will work fine for years, then all of a sudden it decides to spit the dummy and refuse to work. It's not broken, just needs to be unplugged and plugged back in again, or connected to a different port.

Thanks for all the suggestions people, I had tried most of them, or they were not relevant to my situation.

It has been my experience that computers sense when we are under stress and do their best to add to it any way they can.
