Why do you need a reader?

Gnu Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) opens them, then you can save in whatever format you need...

    https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I use it for all my image manipulation, after my Photoshop ran out...has all (?) the tools and does everything PS does, however only the one before last Mac version allows you to batch process images..

Yeah, GIMP can be like that sometimes.

If you are on Windows, another program that claims to work, and shouldn't be full of nasty stuff is Inkscape. I've used it before, but not for EPS files.

Both Inkscape and Ghostscript are fairly unlikely to contain any trojans if you download them directly.

It may be that GIMP also requires Ghostscript to open EPS files.

Maybe that will work too... nobody in the right mind would want to write a new PostScript interpreter when Ghostscript generally works fine-ish.
