It's a good thing that the computer engineers don't make parachutes.
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.

When I first started using it I found it good, with extensions/add-ons etc. Videos and iView were ok too. Videos started creating major problems a year or so ago, so I started using Chrome for that. Then six months ago Gmail started getting perpetual script errors in FF, even with YesScript running, so I moved that to Chrome as well.
Everything else has been ok in FF until a few days ago, although various add-ons get clobbered from time to time with a new release, but many times it's been an add-on I don't use or use much, so it hasn't been a big deal.
Over the years I have customised FF quite a bit, and there are probably >500 sites bookmarked, mainly to do with woodwork (so whilst I don't visit them all, I don't want to delete them either).
Furthermore, and as I queried earlier without response, I've heard that Chrome has security issues so I prefer not to use that for security sensitive work. I do not know for sure if that is true or not.
Changing browsers is not just a simple task. That's why I'm still using Firefox.
Some people have a car and they like to continually tinker with the engine etc. Other people just like to drive it from A to B. I prefer not to have to continually tinker with the browser (or anything else) - I just want to use it.

But the new Firefox only displays your new bookmarks and hides all of your old bookmarks.
Before they were in a dropdown list, but now you have to scroll through a string of menus or search for them by name (like I remember what they are called).
Anything that is in a subdirectory is considered old, as is the subdirectory, and is not readily available.

Yes, I wonder why they have made such a radical change to bookmarks? It is the one thing about the new Firefox that really bugs me. There has been plenty of warning this release was coming for both users and developers. A lot of addon developers have reworked their code already. Most things in the toolbars can be rearranged to your liking, no big deal. I've been able to find alternates for extensions I use that didn't make fixes by the deadline, mostly options I used in TabMixPlus.
The speed improvement absolutely outweighs any drawbacks, I can use FF again on my netbook, it had become almost useless of late. My next big problem is that I don't think the new FF is supported on my old android tablet (original Honeycomb OS) and upgrading the OS on that will be interesting.Franklin

There has been a nag screen after updates starting some point revs ago in version 56 that old style extensions wouldn't be supported in the next major revision to 57. Legacy addons were also being highlighted in the manage addons screen as legacy and incompatible with the next rev. On my android device it went as far as telling me no more updates for this version of Android at all, you will be stuck on 56. I saw that at least a month ago.
As far as Bookmarks go, I only now see the most recent bookmarks in the drop down. To see the rest of them I have to open the bookmarks library panel.Franklin

It certainly is much faster. The previous version was very slow and a memory hog.

I'm not a FF user but a mate is and was recently extolling its virtues. He offered this advice:
"You can get rid of the black tabs with a theme. What's neat though is you can hit the "preview theme" button and see the theme live in the browser. No more installing it only to find you don't like it. "

Brett,
Thank you for this post.
I'm using FF as my main browser and I have automatic updates disabled, I get notifications of updates and then I'll do it when it suits me.
FF instead of trying to move me to the new version send me an email about it and invited me to upgrade. Whilst thinking about it and waiting for my computer expert (my daughter ) you started to detail your troubles.
I think I'll wait a while.
Peter.
