Default Best free anti virus software to download

The latest, free anti virus software available for download is Avira Antivir personal. You can read about it Here I have installed it on my computers and it does the job better than Avast which is what I was using up until a couple of months ago. I ran this program immediately after installing it and it found quite a few nasties that Avast had not picked up on. Most of the computer geeks now reccommend this free software so I thought I would just pass on the link so you can judge for yourself.

AVG was causing problems with firefox on mine so I switched about 12 months ago.

I just don't run stuff from email esp if I don't know the sender. Do a complete scan from time to time.

Major geeks recomend both avg and avast.

If you really want the low down on how to clean and protect your machine I suggest that you visit the "major geek" site. In fact why not start at the Understanding, Cleaning And Preventing Spyware page where they run you step by step through the whole process and advise (good advise too) on what to use and what to avoid.

    I had a problem with SpyBot & IE7
IE8 was too slow so I switched to FireFox & it works fine with AVG & SpyBot.

Yup i use firefox & AVG without any probs. Went thru a real buggy couple of months with firefox, seems to have settled down with the latest update & appeared to be connected to Adobe reader.

I'm using Firefox and Foxit reader (I uninstalled Acrobat years ago) and AVG really slowed everything down - even with all updates. I switched to Avast quite recently and problem solved!

That's funny, I installed Foxit Reader a couple of months ago, and haven't noticed any problems with Acrobat. I still have to use Acrobat to edit pdf files, so if I did experience that problem I would have to get rid of Foxit. Great pdf file reader that.

Sorry, I wasn't clear; Acrobat didn't cause Foxit any problems, I just wanted to remove Acrobat because of its massive footprint and slow performance. Foxit takes up no space at all. I use PDF Factory to write PDFs and Foxit to edit them. I've no need for Acrobat.

I'll have to give foxit a go as adobe has become so slow to run these days.
