Is there a freeware PDF Utility that actually works?...
Dear Fellas,
I'm trying to convert a HTML file into a PDF, and I just tried downloading a suitable sounding utility over at Download.com, and wouldn't you know it - No Worky! (as in it wont even execute...)
And now that I think about it, a couple of months back, I also tried downloading one that was supposed to be able to merge PDF's into single larger files. Same result back then, too - No Worky! (Freeware - serves me right I guess...)
Nonetheless, I'm wondering whether anyone has managed to stumble upon a free PDF utility that's meant to do these sorts of things and actually (Shock! Horror!...) works?
Wouldn't be the end of the world if it involved two separate programs...
Many Thanks,
Batpig.

Pdf Pen works...free download, but each page will have a watermark smiley on it. Costs $38 OZ to get rid of the watermark Smiley.

CutePDF Writer. Very simple, no fuss, but not a lot of options either.

I cut and paste from firefox to open office then save as a pdf.
Usually works very easily on most webpages but on the odd wepage I have to cut & paste the text and the images separately.

Holy Smokes! Talk about response...
Thanks Gents! And here I was wondering whether the question was even worth asking...
Will trundle off back to Download.com, then...

Check out this list at WikiPedia.
I'm not a Windows user but I recall that at the last place I worked, the Windows workstations use CutePDF.Geoff

I've had good luck with PDFCreator at work. Can merge multiple print jobs into one file as well.

Another vote for Cutepdf, but have only used it with MS Word, not HTML files. Installs itself as a virtual printer in Word. It is also on Download.com.

Have used PDF Creator and NOVAPDF without many hassles, but beware that web pages may come out rather oddly if they they uses frames , style sheets etc. To work around that you might need to hit PrtSc to copy the screen image, paste the copy into an image editor, then PDF the editor page.
In the attachments, demo is NovaPDF output direct from this thread when I had only typed the first para. As far as I can fathom virtually all PDR generators ignore the style sheet that controls the colours etc and sometimes the frames as well. It does however include the entire page rather than just a screen full.
Demo1 is a screen grab (PrtSc key) pasted into MS Word as a graphic then PDF'd via NovaPDF. Preserves style sheet info (colours etc and layout) but limited to single screen display area.
Hope this helps

Gosh! Thanks to all of you for the solid response again Gentlemen...
This could actually be a somewhat useful thread for posterity, because nowadays many of the downloadable Sale Catalogue PDF's from outlets like Glenfords and United Tools are getting so large that they are breaking them down into separate sub-files. Now if you are in the habit of holding on to these files for a while, it creates less "clutter" in the parent Folder if you are able to merge the sub-files back together into single larger files - hence the need for a decent Utility...
Best Wishes,
Batpig.
