    Default Internet speed

i have ADSL and comparing this on another forum my speed seems wayfully slow. some were over 6000 but none were as slow as mine and i realise that connection here to Telstra and the exchange we have is very old and the others may be cable and wireless, has anyone got the same as me.

I tried the test with a different site and came up only marginaly faster at 526 kb/s

    Cheers Fred

Here's the results of my test to speedtest.net. (Bigpond Cable)

I ran the test several times and got wildly varying results from 8000kbps to 30000kbps.
It seems to depend which test server the application connects to.

Try going to Whirlpool for a discussion of broadband speeds etc. There are also some links to other local speed tests.

I did a comparison recently to see if I could get reasonable speeds with ADSL. Even though my local exchange does have ADSL2+ capabilities, at 5 Kms from the exchange, the best speed I could hope for was <8000kbps.

This is my result which is not good by comparison. I too have Bigpond Cable.

Is the product this test is supposed to encourage you to buy any good?

Well, you got me beat FB (you got work beat anyway)

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

My Cable plan is Liberty Extreme which is supposed to be up to 30 Mbps, not sure if it's available in all Bigpond cable areas.

What product are they trying to get you to buy?

FWIW, here's another speed test site: OzSpeedTest

Snowy I have Liberty standard. Perhaps there's some incentive to move me to Extreme for an extra $10 per month.

Upload speeds are always slow to prevent you from running a server at home.
They'd rather you used their much more expensive services for that

    Since we are all comparing:

    TPG ADSL2+
Problem is, all these online tests always come up pretty well, yet in reality a lot of the time http is very slow with them.
