Had a lovely weekend!
Sitting out on my balcony Friday evening, and bang, the power goes off, in the distance I hear a mild bang, a fart and a flash, great, someone has hit a pole or a transformer has internally hemorrhaged.
Decided to hit the sack. The following morning I find I have no internet connection. Reset the modem etc, still no internet connection. A few hours pass and I ring Telstra. After an exchange of questions this lovely Malaysian voice informs me there is a problem in my area. It should be fixed in three days. Just great, this happened a few weeks back. As a sweatener, she offered me a free mobile data pack for 30 days. Have you any idea what it's like to have no tv, no computer, no looking up Facebook or the weather on your phone? I might as well be crippled.
Sunday morning, still no internet, then out of the blue, it's back on. Tv works ok, computer's fine but no connection to my phone. Try resetting the modem, still no go.
It's getting hot on it's way to high 30's and so am I. At a loss, I paid a visit to my local Telstra shop and have to wait an hour and a half. I explained my problems to the techie who listens with a blank face and no solution.
I returned home empty handed and thought I'd swap my modem with another new one same model. Some messages popped up on the screen and picked the 4G option and was asked for my password.
I reckon I knew it and typed that in. "Incorrect password". Now I'm really getting pi55ed off. Tried again, same response. Send an email to Telstra requesting my password and a return email confirms I was right. Now the swear words start flowing so did something us clever blokes never do, read the instructions. The instructions tell me the password is written on a label under the modem.
The label doesn't actually say password, but Network Key, so type that in and wallah, the connection to the phone is restored. Felt like rushing out for a bottle of Scotch. Sorry if I bored you.

So, what's new? Welcome to our world of totally relying on digital systems and call centres, none of which offer any customer service or satisfaction

Its not as bad as that really this forum has/had a woodworkers with disabilities section so you will be looked after by all the caring people on this forum Ken. These days we can also sign you up for disabled Olympics.......... you've just proved you good for the marathon after that long run.

Nice to know I'll be looked after in the antique section, but not just yet, as for the marathon, that's out, 10 metres and I'm puffing.

There has been a lot of work in our area installing NBN,bet they have stuffed something up

My neighbor talked to one of the installers who said we would get the signal in for Foxtel but there is supposed to be a return signal back ,now that he discovered that we would be back on in about 4 hours

Unless its for work, I'd call it a first world problem.
We went away for a weekend a few weeks ago. I took my laptop, phone and dongle. When we got there I found we had no coverage, my tech withdrawal lasted about 30 seconds, I fretted more about being away from my shed and coffee machine. I even got some decent sleep for the first time in ages.

Until about a year ago I would have had horrible withdrawals with no internet, was having trouble sleeping constantly so decided to cut the computers out after 6pm and the difference has been astounding.
Thought I'd miss it but I really don't, I browse the web on my phone and go work on restorations/builds when I'm bored.

Guess whats next? Digital money - no cash.
"Only crims, druggos and tax avoiders use cash" is the catch cry I'm reading at the moment.
Wait until a bank goes offline for a week, or an indebted government just confiscates 30% of your "wealth" in an eye blink some random Friday night.....
It'll make being without Foxtel a pleasure.
