New mouse not working with KVM switch
I've had a Logitech cordless mouse connected to a KVM switch for the past five or six years. It worked flawlessly until the scroll wheel died on Saturday.
I bought a Logitech MX 1100 cordless mouse to replace it. The new mouse will work when connected directly to one of the computers, but won't work when connected to the KVM switch.
I tried Logitech's site, but no info was found and their support form dies when I click on submit. Does anyone have an idea what's going on with the new mouse?.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Don't have an answer for you, but I've got another question.
When I charge my Sansa MP3 player on the same circuit as my laptop, its touchpad doesn't work.

have you tried using the old mouse connected directly to a computer? Maybe the KVM switch is at fault and not the mouse.
If not, uninstall the KVM and the mouse and start from scratch and reinstall any software that came with the hardware as per the instructions.
I have several pieces of hardware that will run with no problem when plugged directly into the USB port on the computer but will not run via a USB hub.
Hope you get it to work okay WW.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Both mice are Logitech USB-2 and the old mouse 'works' OK when plugged into one of the puters. The KVM switch is 'plug and play', so there's nothing to turn off or uninstall. I've tried every conceivable scenario of installation and re-starting I can think of, but to no avail.
I'm thinking of buying a new KVM switch to see if that will have any effect..

USB does seem to be fussy sometimes. I got a new external hard drive recently (replacement under warranty). I just could not get it to work. It would be recognised sometimes and not others, and if it was recognised then it would usually drop out after 1/2 hour or so. Not helpful for a big backup. I was tearing my hair out. One of the troubleshooting tips online wa to plug it into a rear USB port, rather than a front one. Worked perfectly ever since. I have no idea what the difference would be, but it was major.
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

Some KVMs don't like usb stuff or KVMs don't like some USB stuff.
If you have a couple of usb to ps2 adapters swap them around otherwise not much you can do except spend more money.

There is about a 30-40% chance that every new motherboard has something that does not work properly. Yours is probably the USB connectors for the front USB. The manufacturers would call it 'acceptable failure'.
The motherboard of your computer is generally the most unreliable component.

I actually have wondered if the fact the older external drive was plugged in to the front USB at the time it deconstructed is a factor. I had to go and repair a carbonised PCB trace on the little board in the front of the case that holds the sockets. May have been more damage internally too, although the camera still downloads well on that port. I have switched the internal connection to the other motherboard header, and will see how that goes over time.
