Can some one point me in the right direction please? Lately I have been getting pop up adds and some times banner adds across the top of the screen. Is this what is called spam? and how do I stop them. I am using XP.

Hi PP
Can you do a print screen (PrtScr) and paste it into a photo program like IrfanView (free program) and put it up so we can see what your problem is.???Have a good one

In order of ease of use:
Modify your HOSTS file so that known advertising sites are ignored - a utility to do this is here: Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
If that doesn't work -
Install Firefox, and get the AdBlockPlus add-on.
If that doesn't work -
Get the Flash Block add-on for Firefox.
If that doesn't work -
Get the NoScript add-on for Firefox.
The last will mean that you will have to manually whitelist sites that you trust the first time you visit them (otherwise Javascript won't run).

Thanks for the reply. If I could do what you suggest, I could probably fix the problem myself.. Thanks for the help any way.
