Power Point Viewer
I am running XP and Outlook express. I have PowerPoint Viewer installed.
When I receive an email with a PPS attachment it will not open. It gives me the message "this file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action".
The only way I can open the attachment is to save it and then open with PowerPoint viewer.
Is there a way I can open the attachment from the email.
Thanks
Macca

It normally opens with Microsioft Office which is expensive.
Open Office (freeware) will open power points and all MS Office stuff, its a great program.
www.openoffice.org if I recall correctly

That advice would only work for the most basic of PowerPoint presentations, if at all.
The correct solution is to use Windows Explorer and create an extension for PPS files that links to the PowerPoint viewer.... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. I had similar problems with viewing .pp files, I just re-installed the MS viewer. The .pp(Something) extensions are not unique to MS Powerpoint and some programs will stuff up the file associations. I am surprised that the error window does not bring up the 'use this program to open this type of file' window, but it doesn't always happen.
Of course, you could always use a non-MS email program like Eudora (available as a freebie as well as pay), Pegasus mail or one of the other free e-mail programs - MS is just a big target for hackers who try to break everything or slip mal-ware into your machine using a known bug in a MS program.

I tried Openoffice.....no change
I then reinstalled Powerpoint viewer
I then went into control panel, folder options, file types and allocated Powerpoint viewer to PPS. files. No change.
Where am I going wrong.
Thanks

These will help:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ppsopen.htm
(the second is more detailed)... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. (A.Hitler)
