Default Don't do what I did

Now I'm in trouble. I down loaded what I thought was a Microsoft security patch, but oh no, it down loaded an entire updated Windows 10 that took about 1.5 hrs.

After firing it up, my first problem was being asked for a password. I've never struck that before so back to Connect I.T. Half an hour later they deleted the need for a password.

Problem 2. I've now lost all my emails in and out and my contact list, gone

Is there some way of recovering my emails and contact list?

I hate computers when something goes wrong.

When Win10 does an upgrade it normally leaves a folder in Root C: with a name something "Windows Old" can't remember the correct name right now, but it normally contains program files that don't get carried across and old user data, that would be the place to look unless, as already stated, you have a recent backup.

Download a program (free) called "Everything". It is the ultimate file finder.

Look for outlook.pst and failing that, just search for .pst (that is litterally dot pst).

Copy or move that file to somewhere convenient and then go into the options in outlook and change it to that location.

    Fixed!

    Nice program!
Reminds me of my early days, before Windows, trying to remember where files were, then along came Xtree and Xtree Gold - what a revelation!

    Default My stupidity, all's good

I need a kick up the *rse, I was clicking the MAIL icon expecting all my emails to be there.

Looking more closely at the home screen, I discovered an icon call OUTLOOK so clicked it and wallah, everything was back.

What fooled me was that the OUTLOOK icon was usually in the bottom menu bar. After the upgrade, the icon disappeared.

Q? What is the difference between MAIL and OUTLOOK? It looks to me they both do the same thing.

Those were the days, a 286 and 1.4mb floppies. I was thinking the other day I have forgotten how to use DOS which I was rather proud of. For file management on Windows I recommend xplorer2 which is a two pane file management tool that works rather well. In WIN 10 you only have to click on the start icon and type a search in which works well.

My first computer was an Osbourne XT (non Turbo) with two 360kB floppies, no hard drive, but I was looked upon with envy because I had a colour monitor.
    DOS commands where second nature.
Still, even now, some things are better be done from the Command line but I really have to have to concentrate now
