My Puter is Back ?.
Hi All,
Well I've had a frustrating time on my Puter.
When I go to WW Forums, on the RHside, up comes this Section, telling me about Turning, Tools, Lathes, Projects etc.
When ever I wanted to go to Page 2 or 3, I wood have approx. 2/3 Sec. to beat this Section blocking the Page 1, 2, 3.
I found a way around it, but now I don't have to bother.
Tried everything to get rid of it, but I'm not good enough to do that.
So I asked a Friend, & it took him almost 20 Mins, & I have the feeling, that it was more by Good Luck than Good Management, but, what the heck, he got rid of it.
This Section thing also came up on my Gmail.
He went into Places, that I never knew existed on the Computer.
So I'm now a Happy Chappie.
Isn't it Great to Have Friends.Regards,
issatree.
Have Lathe, Wood Travel.

Personally, I can't think of anything worse than being asked to fix a "friends" computer.
It doesn't matter how much rubbish, shareware, freeware, and dare I say pirated software, toolbars, utilities, fix-its and other extraneous garbage, oh, and a random collection of useless icons strewn around the desktop, that is present, you are expected to instantly understand what's going on and fix their problems, even though 99 times out of 100 it is a result of an extremely well aimed shot to the foot !!
It's no wonder the PC shops usually say just re-install. It simply is not worth their time to try to figure out what the problem is - apart from the bozo who dumped it on their service counter, that is
Twenty minutes is nothing when it comes to sorting out a computer problem, they are black holes for time, and yet you seem to imply it was too long!! Just exactly how do you asses this?
Your comment implying his success was due to "good luck" I find naive and insulting to your friends preparedness to help. Even if your friend offered the comment himself that it was lucky, maybe he was, but at least he was trying to help, and I'll bet he's breathing a sigh of relief.
Yes, it is good to have friends -be grateful you do, not cynical and dismissive of their efforts to assist you.

Despite 35 or so years in the IT industry, I've never used Windows as my day to day operating system..
I occasionally get asked to help to fix a friend's computers but it doesn't take me long to show that I know even less about it than they do. they don't ask a second time.
Since my mainframe days, I've always been a UNIX user and now use Linux.Geoff
