transfer contacts from iphone to iphone
Did not get any response in my last thread re iphone5 not receiving emails, all contacts lost.
I've lost all contacts on my iphone 5 and want to know how I can tranfer all my contacts from my iphone 4.
I tried a number of software programs to do this and they didn't work. I have iTunes installed.
I should add I tried this, opened iTunes, turned on iphone 4, then connected it to my computer, and synced it.
disconnected iphone 4 and plugged in iphone 5. At the end of the syncing process I got this message. iPhone cannot be synced, unknown error (-54)
Any clues?

It depends....However.
When you move from iPhone A to iPhone B you need to backup and restore.
Plug iPhone A into your computer and when it comes up in iTunes make sure it completes a backup. You should then see something like "Latest backup 12:42 today".
You then connect iPhone B into your computer and when it comes up select "Restore". You will then be given a choice of backups. Select the one you just took from iPhone A.
This will restore all of your settings.
There is actually a lot more to it but that should get you back to where you were.

Oh, as a post script....
I always do a full reset on any new iPhone. I recently did this multiple times after my 7 purchase.
1. Backed up my 6 then did a restore to my new 7
2. Full reset on my old 6
3. Backed up the wife's 5 and did a restore to my old 6
4. Reset her old 5
5. Backed up her dad's 4 and then restored to her 5
To do a full reset
Settings-> General->Reset->Reset All Settings - then enter your iTunes password

Yanis, it seems this procedure doesn't work. I backed up the old phone, then swapped phones and proceeded to restore the newer one, however iTunes reports the two phones are different, can't remember the exact wording.

I had the same issue. The new phone was on an older OS version than the phone I was replacing. I was on a public beta on the new phone.
I had to start as a new phone, set up to download the beta then once I had updated I could so the restore.
Also ... see your other thread for an alternate suggestion.

In the finish after having no luck, I visited my local Telstra shop.
I took both phones, iphone 4 had all the contacts, iphone 5 did not. They transferred all my contacts from 4 to 5. Before starting there was a catch, a $29 charge, still, I thought it was worth it.
Returning 20 mins later all was done. The transfer was done on a bank of computers hidden away and looked impressive. I showed even more gratitude when there was no charge. I love my Telstra shop.

I recall being able to copy music to an iPhone without iTunes. This was on an old Windows computer. I have since moved to Macs. Anyway, I did a quick search for the software, and came up with something similar. Try this link for imazing.com ..
