    Default Amy Gillett Ride

A few of us did the my Gillett ride around Parramatta yesterday. Started at Guildford and did a 55km loop with a stopover in Parramatta Park with displays etc.

What amazed me was the number and width of cycleways in that area. Especially around Prospect where there was a long wide stretch of road width track. Only a couple of semi-serious hills and supervised main road crossings.

Recommendation: for those who live in the area, have a look in the street directory and have a ride along some of these tracks. For out-of-towners catch a train to Guildford and go from there. No serious riding on roads for those who don't like that .

Hmmm....... I wanted to do that ride yesterday but had work get in the way. Part of it was around Smithfield where I work, so I was hoping to use the opportunity to scout out some tracks I could use if I parked away from work and rode.

I really need a way from the M7 path to Smithfield, while avoiding the million and one trucks through the area.

    Did the weather hold off?

Weather was great and those buslanes were fun to ride in.
I thought of you Nathan going through Smithfield.
Are you telling me you would ride up the highway, pick up the M7 and then cross over to Smithfield?

The ride went along the red T-way bus lanes (Parramatta to Liverpool T-way)? I didn't think bikes were allowed on it - if they were I could drive to Liverpool and ride along there to work. It would bring me out 50m from work.

Otherwise, I'd like to park at the southern end of the M7 and take the cycleway to the Horsley Drive area, then cross over to Smithfield.

If all else fails, I think I'll just hop on the bike and do 15 laps around Parramatta Park after work.

    Nathan.

I looked at the street directory and i think you could go all the way along Horsley Drive and then pick up a bike track to Smithfield. Will have another look tonight.

    Nathan,

Drive M7 to Horsley Drive. There is a short stretch there where you could drive to Cowpastures Rd and leave the car there or take your chances on Horsley Drive. Then from Cowpastures it is bike track all the way to Smithfield except one little section in back streets. Most of the ride is along that parkway.

PS I don't think we were supposed to be on the bus way (or at least we needed to give way). One guy asked for a lend of an allen key and dopey stopped in the middle of the road to give him one. Meanwhile a bus came from nowhere and gave me quite a fright!
