Uneven wear on left side tyre
I am selling our off road caravan and while I was giving it a bit of a service I noticed two things that may, or not, be related.
First thing was that the wiring to the RHS brake was damaged. Second thing was that the LHS tyre is unevenly worn.
Could the braking to the LHS only cause this sort of wear?
I have checked the axle assembly and it has not moved, so I don't think it is an alignment issue.

I had that same uneven wear on my 5'er. Took it to a truck wheel alignment place and they found it out of correct alignment - since fixing it no more uneven wear.
I very much doubt that uneven braking would cause that sort of wear.
PS I had the alignment done at Big Wheels in Bundaberg, they have several branches here in Vic as well

Thanks mate. I posted on an offroad caravan facebook group and they are saying the same thing.

I always thought that bad alignment did stuff like that, never imagined it could be so extreme.
You're not running 20 degrees of camber on that thing are you?

I'll let you know after the alignment is done.

Wear like that is almost certainly due to mis-alignment (toe-in). From the pictures I can't spot any point where adjustments can be made on your setup, but if they're saying they can fix it I guess there's some available.

Definitely an alignment problem and maybe low pressure. First thing I'd be looking at is bushes.

Actually camber was my first thought. But looking at your radius rods of the suspension, that much being off camber seems to be extreme. I can't imagine what you could have hit to get the camber off that far. Perhaps the bearing is damaged???

For that extreme wear I would thing you see the wheel sitting at an angle. Another thought - is tyre is rubbing on something under the guard?

Is that a front tyre? If so, does the other side look the same?Camber problems will cause that type of wear but without the feathering that I think I can see on the tyre and some wear should be almost across the entire tread pattern - like a ramp. Yours seems confined to the edge. Can you feel each edge of the tread ridge when you run your hand over the tyre from the worn side to the other side but not the other way? If so it looks like a toe problem.
Saw your other post on Motor Homes and saw it's the van.
Looks very much like a toe problem. Would have to be a hell of a camber angle problem to only wear that edge.Last edited by Lappa; 18th March 2017 at 01:59 PM. Reason: Saw othe post on motor homes

The alignment may not be too far out or it could be if the wear has happened over a short period. What happens is a bit of wear starts a cascading effect, the little bit of wear pulls the contact patch further out of line and it starts to wear more noticeable and the more it wears the worse the pattern becomes. You can check the alignment using string lines, one down each side and measure each wheel against the strings. I am sure it will have toe in as set up by the manufacturer but how much is the question and the other wheel(s) might give an indication of that. Calling that manufacturer/supplier might also get the figures.

Fixed, for $235. Weird thing is that the RHS was more out of alignment than the LHS which had all the wear .

All fixed, click on the link in the first post.
Please make all comments in the Motorhome post thank you.
Admin, can you please move all replies in this thread to the thread in Motorhomes and close this thread. It is pointless having two threads going about the same subject. To grow old is inevitable.... To grow up is optional
