For ease and speed of adjustment the A55 wins hands down in my book. Tapping the blade through with a mallet for a deeper cut is ok, but pulling it back by hammering on the back of the plane has always been very hit and miss for me with accuracy. Too often I found that the wedge would come loose as well, but others may have different experiences.

    Agreed Brett

I have two A55s, one Asian style and one Jack plane, which in the HNT Gordon range, is really half way between the two styles. I have not experienced the wedge coming loose, but if anything had more difficulty freeing up the blade. In recent times I have leaned more towards the A55s.

So what are people buying? At the moment I’m thinking a pair of holdfasts and mayyybe a Jack plane. Worried it might overlap with my Veritas low angle jack though and only trying to buy when I actually need something these days. Pretty hard to pass up a 25% discount though [emoji51]

Hold ya thumb on the vedge when tapping the body and then give the vedge a little tap when the iron is at the right depth works for me.

Yes DJ - have to buy minimum of 1 box (10 pairs). Do you mean you want 2 pairs?

Edit: Ah! Just saw your email.

So yes we have 5/10 pairs now including bueller as well.

I couldn't say - I've never used the V LAJ. However, I can say that the HNT Jack sould be easy to sell if it was an overlap, and I doubt you'd lose any dough either.

Rightio, well hit that "Send Email" button, and specify A55 or not (which will be easier to resell, btw), and HSS blade or Tool Steel.

Is the HSS that's currently being used the same as that from a while back, i.e. one of the 18% Tungsten alloys?
