For all you Amazon fans - it's now shipping again to Oz
After all the ranting and raving and huffing and puffing on both sides,

but, still only first party stocked items. Thats a step forward anyway, but I can't wait for them to open back up the 3rd party flood....

Well, I cancelled my prime membership two weeks ago in frustration (and protest) with their policy, then this announcement!
It looks as though the loss of my custom had repercussions throughout the global giant, and forced a change in policy.

Ordered an 18V hitachi jigsaw skin this morning. $135AU including shipping. Now the wait.
Most of the time amazon isn't the cheapest option, but occasionally they are. I'd had my eye on the jigsaw for a while but didn't pull the trigger before the ban. Now it's off I wasn't waiting.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

I must be doing something wrong on Amazon, I press the delivers to Australia filter , add a few things to my cart and then at checkout it tells me it can’t deliver them to Australia, what am I doing wrong?

As I mentioned earlier, there are still 3rd party stocked items that are excluded. That's probably what you're doing.

(I think) you can look on the item and see where it's from - if it says Amazon, it'll work, if it says anything else....
Post a link to something you were trying

See the blue box I put over (to highlight) the source in the screenshot below. Whilst I don't think you can filter based on the source, you certainly can see who is responsible for the product when looking at it in Amazon, and thus those that aren't fulfilled by Amazon can be ignored at that stage:

That function has never worked. It filters out things you can ship and includes things you can't. I wrote to them about it years ago but they have never fixed it. If I were you I'd just suck it and see but as above 3rd party stuff will fail.
HOWEVER:
When you go to the other suppliers page you can often work out who the businesses are. Some have their own websites and while they don't ship to aus through amazon they will ship direct. I've bought a few things over the years that way and saved money into the bargain.
Same with ebay. Quite often you can figure out the business name go direct to their site where the same items are listed at lower prices.
I have no concerns bypassing the major sites because they do such a great job of stuffing customers around, particularly ebay.
Edit: If you post an example of what you are looking to buy I'll poke around and see if I can post you some options.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

Thanks Poundy, Damian and Midnight man, I did a check with a Amazon listed product and it looks like it will work fine
I was having a look at Makita 18v impact driver skins. There looks to be a new model that sounds good

There is no way I'd buy a skin from OS, missing out on a three or five year warranty seems pretty crazy in my eyes.
I think most of the skins at full Australian RRP still represent excellent value. I will say that I would like a 1/4" ratchet but Milwaukee don't bring that in to Australia so I may import one of them.

Ubernoob: to each their own. My kit was half the money I'd pay in aus for the same thing. If my tools break down I'll either pay for repairs myself or post them to the USA for warrantee.
Beardy: I can't find that model in australia. Slightly dearer on ebay:

The discounts on newer models are small while discontinued models like those I bought are huge. That unit you chose looks like a really nice thing. I didn't know if I'd use the impact driver much, now I've had it 6 months I use it ALL THE TIME. If I buy another I will definitely lash out on a premium model but I am so happy with the one I've got. I've been rebuilding my steel roof this last week and it's paid for itself 100 times over.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.
