GROUP BUY of HNT GORDON, COLEN CLENTON, MICHAEL CONNOR, VESPER TOOLS, HAROLD & SAXON
G’day all
Admin have approved an open thread on this Group Buy, as it requires some discussion.
I’ll break it down into different posts for each of the tool makers, so as not to have one humungous post.
The discounts will vary from one supplier to another, and so will the offerings. On some of them the range available will be quite strict, and on others we will have a starting position and depending upon the demand shown in this thread other options may become available.
All the orders will be sent to me for re-distribution, except in the case of very large tools (e.g. a Connor workbench kit)
The offers are open to overseas members as well, and where possible orders will be combined for re-distribution (as far as I know the overseas postage cost for 1 kilo is the same as for either 10 or 20 kilos).
NON MEMBERS & LURKERS - now is the time to come out from behind the curtain.
Postage within Australia to a member cluster will also be combined where practical.
Terms will be a 50% deposit (you’ll be advised when this is due) and then 50% plus postage costs prior to delivery.
PLEASE NOTE: Thread thread does have administration approved.
However the administrators, moderators and Woodwork Forums are in no way connected to the buy other than supplying the venue.
Below is a very small section from the "GROUP BUYS - Information" thread in Announcements
- Group buys have nothing what so ever to do with, and are in no way associated with, Woodwork Forums, the Forums Owner, Administrators, or Moderators.
- Woodwork Forums the, Forums Owner, Administrators and Moderators do not and will not, accept responsibility for any problems, losses or other adversity associated with any Group Buy.
- The total responsibility for the buy rests solely with the organiser of the buy and no one else
- Participants entering a group buy do so at their own risk and should make themselves fully aware of any potential problems that may or may not be associated with the buy.

HAROLD & SAXON CHISELS - a brand new range
HAROLD & SAXON CHISELS - a brand new range
30% Discount on the new bench chisel range.....$66.50 each
H&S (Trent Powrie) has just launched a new range of less expensive bevelled bench chisels. They still have the same HSS M2 Cryo trested steel as the Ultimax range, but the handles are slightly different in that they have a top ferrule.
This picture is not of the actual chisel, but is representative
I should have a picture of the real deal in about three weeks.
They will available in sizes 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1" and 1 1/4" and will have Myall timber handles with a brass top ferrule. Myall is almost identical to Gidgee and Trent tells me that if you weren't told it was Myall then you would think it was Gidgee. Myall is a little more appropriate for a chisel handle.
These chisels will be going on his website for $95 each, and the Ultimax are $130 each so our price of $66.50 is HALF PRICE for what is essentially the same chisel as the Ultimax. Beat that if you can!
No discount for sets, as the prices are already set prices.
6 POCKET LEATHER CHISEL ROLLS $45.50 (normally $65 - pic to come)
Depending upon demand, Trent may extend his offer to some other chisels in his range, such as the mortice Chisels, so register your interest in this thread.
IMPORTANT:
The lead time on production of these chisels will be vastly improved, because they will (hopefully) have a nice long run to work on, so that they can get stuck into it. One of the major difficulties that they have had has been chopping and changing the production runs to cope with small orders.

450mm $67.50
600mm $81.00

I'm interested in getting some bevel edge chisels from Trent and also interested in mortice chisels (depending on price).

HSS M2 PLANE FLOATS $67.50 (either size, and without handle)
These are a non-stock item that Terry Gordon has agreed to make for us as a special run. They are the same floats as he uses himself, and because of the hardness of the timber required for planes they have to be HSS for any kind of durability. This means that when it finally comes to sharpening the floats you will need a Diamond File. Terry states that he gets a minimum of 250 plane beds before they need resharpening, and that is a simple process done with a triangular Diamond file.
I have a supply of European Beech handles (from Liogier) that can be fitted unless you wish to make your own handle.
The minimum combined order is 10 Floats of either size.
The larger (at rear) is 9.5mm tapering down to 5mm and has 5.5 TPI and the usable blade is 76mm long.
The smaller one is 6.35mm tapering down to 2.5mm has 6.5 TPI and the usable blade is 63mm long.
It looks to me like a good deal of Gordon sweat has gone into that patina!

Hmmm very interesting GB Brett. When would you like the orders in by? (sorry if I've missed it, but you've posted a lot of info!)
For those thinking of participating in this GB but not sure...I've participated in a couple of Brett's GB's now with no issues.

Thanks John. Not sure about a cut off date and they'll probably be different for the various suppliers, because of different lead times and so on. Pretty much play it by ear I think.
