Yes Nick, that's true, but what I meant was if there's no boxes available just send the bloody drills anyway.

Actually, it's not quite true, and this will give you an example of the attention to detail that I battled. Of the 22 sets of bits on offer, 12 of them were more expensive than purchasing individually. I did an analysis in Excel, and sent it over. No response, so I brought it up in conversation a couple of weeks later...."did you know that blah blah". "NEIN! VOT?! SHEISSE!"

On top of that, they were unaware that with the introduction of some new parts, they had used 5 existing part numbers. Furthermore (!), they had a few incorrect descriptions (dimensions etc), even including metric dimensions for an imperial set (and not the correct dimensions).

This was all in the PDF of the new "Preisliste" that was about to go online. So I guess I saved them from international embarrassment with days and days of proof reading and head scratching. That was why I was SO off with the subsequent treatment (ignoring emails, and a general complete lack of communication etc). Of course, this explains why the new pricelist did not go online in April (as the website declared) and didn't actually go up until (I think) August. It will also explain to you guys why I had to contend with no less than five lots of pricing before we got to the final one. I could detect (by tone of Teutonic voice) that I was being regarded as a PITA for finding yet more mistakes! Hey man! I can't help it if detail & mistake spotting is my long suit!

In January the Chinese Govt ruled that empty wooden boxes could not be exported from China. "But", I said, "they're not empty. In fact they're full of pollution!" Various other fiascos followed trying to get these 'king boxes (which nobody wants - rottsa ruck unloading yours Nick). Distributors on holidays, crap workmanship, blah, blah.

Anyway, we're a big step closer now!

Have just received a package from FF..very prompt I may add.
I have drills for Messers AJMacca and DoctorBobski and I think it maybe cheaper to post rather than you guys driving to my place.
No worries for me to do this, if it's OK with you, PM your address and I'll slap them in the post on Saturday.

    Cheers

Nick & Pops, a 500g bag is now $9.20. To save Pops fooling around with money transfers I can credit Nick & debit Pops for that in the reconciliation. Let me know. BTW that is the cheapest way to get such an item across the desert.

Tis fine by me, smart thinking. Whatever Nick confirms his cost is, all good. He has my postal address.

    Good man FF.

Ah, I see. Actually I wish I known more about them when I sent out the drills. One has to be VERY careful with Australia Post - it's very easy to get gouged without them telling you. They'll very happily take you dough when there are cheaper options available. I'll probably put up a separate thread on this. Basically the prepaid satchels (of either type) are the same cost anywhere in the country, but if you send (say) a Tough bag it depends upon the postcode to postcode distance, and there's the cost of the Tough bag on top.

For example, I sent 2.098 kilos to Groggy at a cost of $13.25 + $1.15 = $14.40 and up to 4 business days delivery. I could have sent 3kgs by Express post for $12.55 (tracking, next day delivery). Or I could have sent a prepaid satchel (not Express) for $11.20 (no tracking, up to 4 days). To my mind the clear winner in this example is Express Post: an extra $1.35 for tracking and next day delivery.

There are stacks of anomalies in the AP system. The difference in cost in the satchels above is $1.35, but as Nick points out the difference in cost for the 500g version is $9.20 - $6.60 = $2.60, which is about right, and makes the cheaper satchel worthwhile (esp. on a % basis).

You may ask why I didn't change to the lesser expensive methods when I discovered the gouging. The problem was that I was already committed to the Tough bags: purchased, packed and addressed, and being served at the PO.

AND HOW ABOUT THIS: AP have a competition at the moment. If you spend $20 or more you can enter to win $20,000 cash. All you have to do is fill in the coupon, and affix a 60c stamp! If they get 33,333 suckers to do this then they will have a self-funded competition. If there are more (and there probably will be - it's a 2 month competition) then they'll make a profit!

I wonder how many others will have their sticker on the wrong side of the box? Doh!
