Welcome aboard Dom as a new Forum member. It was great to talk to you last Tuesday.

From what Dom was saying this show will be somewhat different from the 3 Shows run previously in Tasmania by DMG. Here 50% of the exhibitors will have working demonstrations.

I understand that it will planned to develop along similar lines to the Deloraine Craft Fair but being solely for Woodworkers and their products.

I encourage the Tasmanian woodworking community get behind this local venture and support it so that it can develop into an iconic event for our craftspeople.

The DIY Woodworking Show Tasmania is on next week (19th-21st November) at Launceston's Silverdome.

If any Tasmanians are desirous of putting in an order with Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies or Hardware for Creative Finishes, I would suggest you contact Jim or Michael, today or tomorrow to allow them to pack your items for delivery in Launceston.

I'll be at the Woodcraft Guild Tasmania's stand (number 37) each day so pop in and say g'day.

I've attached below a floor plan showing the names and locations of all exhibitors.

Default Carrolls Of to Tassy Show

Well we are all packed and ready to head of for the ferry.

Yes had to go a couple of days early due to no room for the trailer on monday or tuesday night.

The blond reckons this is great as she can do some sight seeing or was that shopping.

Looking forward to catching up with all our tassy freinds.

Hoping for calm seas as I dont have sea legs.

See you all next weekend at the Silverdome Launceston.

I'll be there with bells on. I'm in the market for a small lathe. Absolute rank beginner so will be after some sage advice from those in the know.
Will be selling some of my restored Stanley Planes (users) so I can buy the lathe.
PM me if you have a particular plane you want that I may have on hand.

Welcome to the Black Arts sheddy.

Have a yarn to Jim Carroll about a lathe. My recommendation is the Woodfast.

    Extremely happy with mine.

    Wink

hey , dunno about "black Arts" but I'm surrounded by long shiny pieces of wood I've done on the old (and dangerously backyarded) GMC lathe (and 2 very old and blunt chisels) I borrowed. I only have about 350 - 400 bucks to spend so it won't be a rolls royce model. I only want to make small stuff on it so only need small chisels I guess. The Ubeaut EEE cream is amazing stuff too.
    Cheers

    When are you coming Mike?

The show has some really great exhibits on display. I would encourage all Tasmanians with an interest in all things wood to come along and have a look. Some really good show specials too. I bought a domino yesterday.

kevm did you have to wear slippers on the basketball courts as the organisers dont like their floor getting marked according to some suppliers
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

They are not that picky, we were able to drive on it with the four wheel drive and dual wheel trailer.

    Smile Excellent Start!!

Drove up to Launie yesterday to attend the show. (5 hour round trip from New Norfolk to Prospect). She who thinks she must be obeyed went shopping. Arranged to meet her 3 hours later.
1st impression as I walked down the steps was that I had probably allowed 2 hours too much............ 3 Hours later she was calling to check how much longer I would be.

Spent a lot of time talking to various people, learning all the time. Had a chance to look at various bits and pieces that I had seen online. (Bought a few, too!!!)

After an absence of 3 and a half years, it was great to see these types of displays again.

Talking to various suppliers, there was a degree of disappointment about the number of visitors. For those out-of-state suppliers you'll have to understand the Tassie mentality re word of mouth.
We were annoyed when the last mob disappeared, so there will be/is a degree of scepticism about a new show. Now that we have seen the commitment and quality, word will spread and the next show will be much better attended.

    2 things:
    1. A BIG vote of thanks to the organisers
    2. If you can, get there today............ it's worth a quiet Sunday drive!!!
