I don't know what constitutes drivel. Anything that isn't directly related to the thread topic could be conceived as drivel.

    No banter from me either.

(oops, I think I just bantered , but that's the last one you'll see from me)
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

As the first member in recollection that has received a public warning....infraction notice.....under the new rules.....I can tell you how it feels.
Not many members reply to your posts....or questions...........there is a bit of a taint about you.in the general sense of the woodworking world.
    Fine, so be it.
If that's what's required to stop consuming bandwidth with drivel.........I'll cop that.
    For the next 8 days.
And then I will privately have my say.
Let's not bugger up a good thing.....provided by ubeaut........let's just talk about woodwork and have a bit of fun as well

Well... as Im possibly one of the forums great drivellers hyjackers and general topic changes of the day I must say Im confused I mean I didnt even realize there was an ACTUAL "friday" thread I thought that was just some forum drivel but not only is there apparently a friday thread area but theres now to be a drivel thread area as well??? I dont get it

I think my posting here has suddenly become severely curtailed restrained and censored ...so much so that if I do post in what is my usual way I will get my first warning within seconds after I post this

I dont actually know what constitutes drivel to someone else... I mean how do I know what Neil considers drivel? I mean it could be a lengthy dissertation on the manner one posts a series of pics with a story within it that may take some time in the telling thus could be seen as drivelling along... or it could be seen as a long long post of some discription that generally related to the particular forum thread being posted to but gets there the long route... or even a post in response to a thread that is humorous enjoyable but long and slightly if not totally off topic... hell it happens!

See I for one have trouble with short concise and succinct... no its a personal thing I dont do it... cant actually seriously I have tried many many times over the years to do it but its just something I cant manage... I waffle... get over it move on and I aint changing if that costs me my forum membership here then so be it... so I can see how ANY post of mine could be conscrued by SOMEONE as drivel... or is it only Neil that can determine whos drivelling and whos not? hell Neil if it is then man youve just upped your workload here!!... but otherwise you mods want more bloody work?? This is gonna create a shyteload as the drivel haters start throwin pms at you left right an centre!! your gonna be spending even more of your time here investigating censoring deleting warning and banning... you want that?

Anyway as I see it... its Neils forum so he can introduce whatever laws he chooses for whatever reasons he chooses but I think theres gonna be a bit of a reduction in the quality enjoyment and participation in the forum if this goes ahead... me Im just gonna keep on as I always have if it gets me banned well... its been good check yer later... such is life

Ubeaut woodwork forums are to me at least one of the most enjoyable forum sites on the net and to me it will be an absolute shame to be banned from it simply based on forum rules that discriminate against my disability to construct short succinct and concise posts but as Ive said if this is the end well such is life Ive enjoyed the ride thanks be to Neil and the crew for the forum as we have KNOWN it

Okay am now waiting for the warning

    Cheers
Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

I wouldn't worry too much Ding... nobody ever reads your posts all the way to the end anyway.

    [rant]

This is what happens when people push and push and push.

The reputation system got screwed by dickheads abusing it, same has happened here.

Take a good thing and treat it badly, and it gets damaged. Compromises have to be made, but a compromise is only ever that.

There has been a huge amount of discussion in the background, and this was the best compromise.

Keep in mind - the mods and admins are members of the forums too - we want it as interesting, fun, informative, sociable, entertaining, educational etc etc as everyone else. We are no more happy with what's happened as anyone else, but we have been pushed to a point that we had to take action to preserve the fundamental benefit of the forums, and like the rep system, some things have to be sacrificed to achieve this.

In the long run, we will see a balance reestablished. Until then, remember what you liked about the forums, and remember that we all want this to remain a great place to be.

As to drivel - from my perspective, I don't know how to define it concisely, but it is bloody obvious when you see it. (and some posts above come close to that wide grey line, and a couple do step over). We are not here to be police, so don't put us in a position where we have to act as one. I, and the other mods are here as forum members first, having to put on the moderator hat is frustrating at best. So if we seem grumpy when we are acting in the moderator role, that's why.

It used to be that I could go weeks without feeling that moderating was required (other than blocking spam from the forums) (and granted that in particular (and others) were also walking the walk). It'd be awesome if we could get back to that point.

Ding - don't worry - we know you have a bad case of 'the verbal runs' (Cliff makes an amusing point )

Ding, that was a lazy 531 words. I reckon you should get a warning whenever you post something longer 20 words.

Was going to reply to this thread but rather than reply here I have gone through this thread and edited a few of the post with my replies and thoughts. Mostly the replies are not aimed at the poster but purely my response to comments and misinformation that I feel everyone who's interested should be aware of.

The edited threads are easy to find as all the replies and comments I made are in red and signed.

    To sum up:
All I can say is, every time we try to do something to help these forums it gets shatupon from a great height. Usually by the same handful of members members about .005% of the members. This time is no different. As a matter of fact the response is rather pathetic. I thought there would be more heated debate, hair pulling and gnashing of teeth. Maybe some of the antagonizers are realizing that everything I do I do for the good of the forums and the members as a whole.

Then again, maybe they just haven't seen this thread yet.

Keep the pathetic, mindless, school yard rubbish in the WHAT A LOAD OF DRIVEL Forum and the clever, witty, humorous, Aussie larakin stuff in the open forums and there won't be a problem.

Indeed so many questions, and another nail in the coffin for this unique forum as it was.
Not another nail in the coffin. Don't play stupid, you all know what drivel is and the worst offenders push the boundaries every day. Members are fed up with it, so are the mods and admin. Drivellers are the biggest nail in the coffin for these forums and have driven many, many members away from these forums.
Dont play stupid? That was a broad statement (as I said in the post I made NOT AIMED AT THE POSTER) As a poster im entitled to my opinion just as you are as owner. And as far as i can see the drivel hasnt increased in the normal posts at all , You don't see them because they have already been deleted it's an ongoing battle keeping the posts clear of the mindless drivel so members don't see it or have their posts ruined by it. Now there will be a punishment that goes along with the deletion. Mods and admin would like to come on to the forums and enjoy them like you guys do rather than have to clean them up so you lot can get your enjoyment at the loss of theirs its only the friday thread and the posts they start when having a dig, and they are clearly identified by the title so the sensitive ones dont have to read or get upset. You have instructed the Mods to crack down on it and it appears to me they are looking a little to hard in the normal posts to find it. Not at all. There has been no such instruction and there will not be. However they will be handing out infractions to the problem causers from now on. And as a poster its my opinion the forum is becoming over moderated. If overmoderation means YOU and the rest of the members get a better forum then yes it is overmoderated if you mean it's becoming like SMC then you are sadly mistaken. We are trying to get it back to what it was.
They were participated in by some very unique individuals with a unique brand of knowledge and humour and some witty and some silly hijaking. They were great to read and participate in. Have a look around, most of the people who used to make these posts knowledgeable, fun, and witty have been driven away by the MINDLESS DRIVEL which for the most part is not witty, humorous or for most people, fun.
Rubish. Id love to know who the so called members are who have been driven away by drivel. Im aware of only one person, and that would be a lame excuse if it was drivel that drove him (or the other alleged) members away. Yeah right we'll name, names so you can hound them to find out why they left or no longer post but prefer to work through PM's and emails to get away from the rubbish. Never going to happen.

Your the Boss Ive officially retired from any more discussion on Drivel. Its getting nowhere and its also getting boring
