Hey Paul,
Thanks very much for the info. Both Dad and I have been trying to find more info but there just doesn't seem to be much.
There is no etch that I can see yet. Although I thought I saw something (pun intended) the other day.
I finished with only the D100 and some calipers only because I couldn't find any more disstons that were in alright condition. Dad ended up with 3 saw's. I think one of them is older than the my D100.
I can't wait for the Ballarat Saw sharpening gtg. Will be nice to learn the tricks and get it back in full working order.
Cheers
Dirk

Some poor pics of my poor saw collection.
Not sure which saws I be sharping on the weekend.
Hopefully the backsaw and maybe the little Spear and Jackson.
I but I imaging there will be lots of discussion,
Or my saws older than your saw thing.
But any way, hopefully we can figure out what my collection is.
It's great to see Dirk is excited about coming.
Any one else hint hint [emoji3]

My good saws are in box from Pete. They've been sharpened by Paul and are in fine form.
That leaves me a choice from these. I dont know that there are any collectors in there

I'm excited too.
Am chasing up Bahco files at present.
I picked up three saws at the TTTG sale.
1. Richard Ibbotson Ca. 1890
2. Spear & Jackson. Ca. 1930's
3. Henry Boker Ca. 1950's ??
Have also borrowed an old saw vice that needs some serious cleaning up. Fun.
Regards
Pete.

Get your hand saws sharpened for free
Hi filing apprentices.
FILES: I've been chasing up Bahco files. Once I have an answer from my supplier, I will post file availability and cost in case anyone needs me to grab a few files for them.
I will also post a list tomorrow of what file goes with what saw. Because without that, I'm lost. I've made the list but can't post it today as it is on my work computer. I've used information from a few web sites and done the best I can but I would encourage corrections from anyone who knows more about this than me (that's pretty much everyone).
SAW: Awhile back I bought a Spear & Jackson (Ca. 1950,s ?) that was more than a little abused. I have since cleaned it up and had it re-toothed to 8 tpi. This is what I intend to work on during Matt's saw sharpening extravaganza. I will also bring my other saws for show and tell.
DIRK: If you get a chance, can you post the video of the re-toothing please. Thanks.
Regards
Pete.

Thanks Pete.
The list would be really great to see.
I think and I maybe wrong but Heavensabove had a list to.
If he does ,we could cross reference both lists to make it even more confusing for us want to be,s.
I was speaking with Dale awhile back,
And he may ,it's just a may ,no pressure Dale .
Bring his re toother up for show and tell too.
If he does ,he may go home a bit lighter ok .I'm dreaming there.
And also just a big thanks to everyone who has been busy finding out things for the collective knowledge bank.

There's only one danger with working from a list of file sizes for ppi sizes - the corners (edges) of the available files may be larger (fatter) than they should be - this is the biggest problem with modern saw files. I guess what I'm saying is that a file that is recommended for say 8ppi may only be suited for 6 or 7 ppi.
Anyone from the USA watching the pain involve with sourcing Bahco files must be shaking their head in disbelief!
I have sent an email to Tome Feteira in Portugal to see the cost of their files, and associated freight costs. I believe they ship worldwide, but if it's a problem, I have a friend in Barcelona who may be able to help. Note that there is only one file factory in Portugal, TF, and also note that Bahco files are made in Portugal........if you get my drift. TF also list 4" DEST files, which Bahco do not, and there may be a reason for that. I've heard from a few sources that even the Bahco 4" EST have brittle corners too often, so the 4" DEST may be even more prone to that.
I've also had some slightly encouraging news on getting proper files with proper tapers with proper edges with proper hardening and tempering made, but that's another story that is still being written.

You're far too kind Matt - it's more file cynicism.

For all of you that are interested, here is the video of pete's saw blade getting retoothed professionally by our saw guru that sharpens all our bits and pieces.
https://youtu.be/RgRR4yG7gsQ
I also have a link that I will post of the saw sharpening machine in action (without a saw blade) that he uses but doesnt show us how he does it because dad opted to take that to the gtg to sharpen himself.
Cheers
Dirk.
