    Default Henty Machinery Field Day

This will be my first time at this event as I am sort of local to the area(Albury). I will be a passanger in my friends car. I have been told that this event is massive and judging by the size of 105ha I think it will be an all day event.

This is is a three day event 19, 20 and 21 of September, next week.

    The website is here, http://hmfd.com.au/

Who else will be going to this event?

I went last year and in 2015, not really a woodies event, but by jings it was a good day out. You will need a full day just to walk past every display without spending much time at each vendor. The site is very well laid out and there is plenty of room around each display.
A nice touch is the ability to hire motorised mobility equipment for those who find the sheer size of the site a bit daunting.

It shouldn't be a problem avoiding spending up big on a 500 hp four wheel drive tractor for around 1/2 a million hard earned dollars, but there are plenty of bits and pieces at a much more affordable price in the various power tool and hand tool vendors. It is amazing how many suppliers are there, ranging form car companies displaying their latest utes, chainsaw manufacturers, motorbike companies, even clothing suppliers, with a special area for the ladies including a fashion show.

Well worth a visit, but check out the availability of accommodation before getting too excited as it is a huge event attracting suppliers and visitors from all over the country.

Henty has been the biggest event of it's type in the region for more than 25 years. Just getting in to the site is an eye opener for down here - special traffic arrangements on the Olympic Highway to keep things moving. As Uncle Al says there's something to interest everybody, male, female, young, old and everywhere in between. Generally a good range of hand tools, some at quite attractive prices. It's one of those events that everybody should do at least once in their lifetime.

    Hello Christos,
Are you now a southerner, given your proximity to the border, or do you remain true blue?
Thought of you the other day when I got out those long clamps to use that I bought from you some years ago.
Hope you have bought a large farmers' hat to suit. But keep turning - Regards, John M.

I am still in NSW about 15 kilometers north of Albury. It is a nice place with lots of housing development happening so hardly going to call myself a farmer as the size of land is quite small compared to others down the road. But in terms of hats I have several wide brimmed ones that are quite light to wear when outside in the garden. I still have my forum cap that I wear when heading into Albury for the weekly shopping.

Christos......now is your chance to be a "farmer for the day"!!!! We go to the Ag Show in Gunnedah when its on in August. Its a great day out just to have a look at whats happening in the farming game. You will need a wide brimmed hat to be comfortable (and so will your baby) you can "pretend" (if only to your self) that you know about farming things. Like Gunnedah there will be some thing for the wife to be interested in too, so don't leave her at home. Take photos of tractors and trucks for you to make scale model toys. There would also be tent trading tool sales as well where you can pick up that tool that you didn't know you needed. You will have a good day, I am sure
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

I almost forgot about the photos. Will have to see if I can find the camera's battery.

For those making the trek to Henty, it is a very good idea to take particular note of your parking spot location. The car park(s) are enormous, and there aren't many trees etc. to use as a reference point, especially if you leave a bit earlier than the majority of the crowd. Things are a bit easier later in the day when there are fewer vehicles remaining in the paddocks.
This advice is of particular use to those who drive a white 4 wheel drive ute, as it seems that about 60 percent of all vehicles fit this description!

Anyway, have a great day out there, it is a real eye opener if you haven't had a great deal to do with farming.
