What a dill!
"Thanks for the vote Pete, but we are meeting at Kerry this time. I am very happy to host another meeting in a couple of months, one that Dingo will attend (Gawd help us! )."
Well Kerry - I have re-read this thread and realised what a dill I am. That is what only half reading a thread produces for you! Sorry Kerry, Derek et.al. Had I read this sooner, I would have made arrangements to get to Mandurah and meet you all. It would have been great to get there but that little bit of extra time has created a bit of a snag for me. I hope you all enjoy it. Perhaps Les can fill me in on the goings on.
Will you still respect me in the morning?
RegardsPete J

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Kerry for hosting us at her place yesterday. It sure was great to meet everyone - connecting faces to forum and real names etc. Thanks to Derek for demo-ing planing, scraping and sharpening. Lots of tips picked up by many of us. Hopefully others who took shots on the day will post pictures.
Cheers

Very much appreciated Kerry (Kekemo) from the Ramps family
Thanks also to Derek for his efforts of bringing along a swag of sharpening gear and some planes ... ooh those planes ... hey you guys that weren't there really missed out
Thanks Bob (BobL) for an insight to building our own tools ... truly inspirational
Also Thanks very much for the MIchael and SANdra (from MISAN) for bringing along their wares for display and sale ... and for the pork.
All in all a wonderful relaxing and informative day. Thanks

And a few pics of the Day @ Kekemo's
Derek demonstrating the sharpening of a scraper ... I needed this
Derek demonstrating how sharp the blade is ... really he's looking for a hair to shave off ... Derek seems to have surprisingly bald hands
A few shots of Dereks tools and sharpening gear as well as great display of BobL's home made tools. :eek:Ramps

Would just like to echo previous comments and thank all those that contributed to make the get together a great day, Kerry for her hospitality, Derek for the ever comprehensive demonstations and bag full of desirable tools, Bob for his hand made tool collection and all others that attended.
It is not often one gets to use a spectacular hand plane like the Philip Marcou BU Smoother but yesterday was the day. Unlucky for those that could not make it. Next gathering perhaps.
Cheers to you all.

I too had a very enjoyable day where I saw how people can become very addicted to using factory seconds tools (the ones they forgot to attach a power cord to).
I know I won't live long enough to aquire the skills of the Derek's & Les's of this world but I will have fun trying.
Thanks so much to Kerry for hosting this day out, it was a pleasure to meet you and see your handiwork first hand. After explaining it to my swmbo she would like to see it too. (pm on the way).
To all who attended, great to meet you and I hope this will not be the last get to gether for us.
Thanks again for the chisels Derek, they DO have a good WA home I promise.
Regards

I too would like to echo previous comments - it was a great day. Thanks to everybody involved in organising it.
Thanks especially to Kerry for her hospitality and sharing her workshop, Derek for the waterstone sharpening station demonstation, cabinet scraper sharpening / use and advice on all things to do with planes, and to all the others that attended - thanks heaps. It was great to catch up, and the sharing of knowledge and experiences is greatly appreciated.
Thanks also to MISAN Timbers. (You have some beautiful timber - I now know what I want for Christmas.)
Best wishes

I think that I am the last of the attendees, apart from our wonderful hostess, to add my comments so it looks like everything has been said already. It was a wonderful day, the type that you leave thinking about when the next one will be. At the same time you think about Dingo and Gazaly who were both heavily involved in getting it to happen but couldn't attend. Hopefully that can be corrected next time.
Particular thanks to Kerry for putting on such a wonderful event, Bob for showing us what a work of art a handmade tool can be, and Derek, whose generosity in bringing along (some of) his tools and giving the rest of us an insight into how to do things properly really made the day. Thanks to everyone who attended, it was a pleasure to be in the company of such a fine group of people.
Regards

I cannot thank-you all enough......I am still a little in shock...that I managed to complete the day with-out disolving into tears...It was so nice to realize that a couple of you had met my dearest Eddie, before he passed away........Dingo, your thoughtfulness in getting this started for me to be able to get back into the woodworking & meet some new friends...I don't think that I will ever be able to thank you enough...Oh by the way the dog behave beautifully...
Many thanks to Kathy & Michelle & Sandra, opps hope I have that right....sorry part of grieving.... memory is shocking....special thanks for attending it would have been a little overwhelming, your friendship is valued. I know that my style of furniture is vastly different from the artful professionalism that Derek shows.....what exquisit handles, woodwork & fine hand made tools....I felt a little bit of a fraud calling myself a woodworker.......the "Country Cottage " look is much like a Pro-heart, throw it together & jump in......compared to some of the lovely woodwork I can imagine that some of the forum members here are capable of.
Sorry that Gazaly missed the day...well I am not far from you Gazaly....still need to meet more woodworkers....Bunbury & Perth are still a little to far just to drop in....must go....getting a bit teary....thanks heaps to all...Kekemo........
True to form Dingo, no-one got coffee.....just plyed them all with alcohol......LOLDon't think you're playing it safe by walking in the middle of the road.....that's the surest way to get hit by traffic coming from both ways!
I'm passionate about woodwork.......making Sawdust again & loving it!
