Meet and greet in WA?
Okay there seems to be a bit of interest in a get together for the West Coast crew... So we need to nut it out a bit
1) location... this needs to be as reasonably fair travel wise for everyone (well some will travel more than others but if we can keep it to say 150 each way max that should cover most)
2) location... where?
3) some have expressed a desire for an overnighter... although not altogether not doable would take some nutting out.
4) Perhaps someone to show or describe something woodwork related?
5) WHEN... Im gonna be a bit of a wobbly one here since I buggar of again in about a week and will be gone for 3 this trip out (still working on bringing that back to 2 but dont know how Im gonna get on as Ive been off site for 4 months now)
So far...
1) Mandurah meet at Kemeko (Kerry) is a good option since she has the patio to beat all patios! And can talk the ears of any woodnut!! all the time while having a ball Shes also alluded that she would not be adverse to a meet and greet at her place.
2) Again Mandurah seems the best shot for the distance side of things as many travelling from the south and north could combine the meet and greet with either a trip around Mandurah or down to Missan Timbers and the distance at least from Bunbury to Mandurah pretty much related to a trip from say Quinns to Mandurah given the freeway system
3) An overnighter is doable with some work (ala the missus in my case) could maybe have a couple of tents or caravans out the back overnight if it swings this way
4) Demo we will need access to TOOLS... so we could have someone demonstrating say sharpening lathe chisels and someone demonstrating on the lathe someone perhaps doing a demo on the TS or Bandysaw would go down well someone else demoing some jig making... the ideas are endless... Note here Ive got plenty of timber ready for work and have F100 and trailer if needed to move some... but as always I will never say no to offerings ahem have F100 and trailer can bring it empty and leave with it full
Note... Im not ashamed to say my chisels are as blunt as old larry so the demo could show them getting a nice edge on them? no point in doing a demo on sharp chisels is there eh! ... and Im a total novice at this game compared to some here... so it will be a win win eh?
5) When... this could prove the problem spot particularily for the overnighters as Im off again soon it will either have to be SOON or in about a month but even then we will have to sort this before I go to prepare her highness
Id like to have a few bods even though Im not averse to small one on one gatherings I'd like to have a mob just for the fun of it... you know make a day of it? get the kids muckin about the missus doin her thing with the other missus's (if not the shed thing)... you know a break from the norm and to get to know others AND learn something new!
Now so far Ive gotten interest from about 5 I think for Mandurah and one for an overnighter... we can work out the logistics etc of the overnighter as we go along
On this note I reckon maybe a weekend would possibly work out okay... Im thinking of Richard Woodhead and others south of Bunbury making their way up here for the overnighter with shed thing and back home for Sundy or up to Mandurah for the meet there... head slowly back home Sundy arvo?... Someone in the northern areas can catch those coming south from the northern areas same for the eastern people... sorta make a base place to initially meet those nearer you have a intro and into the shed time then a barbie an yarn time a snooze and making it a convoy to Mandurah on the Sundy mornin for the barbie for lunch and then the arvos free?
Nothing is fixed in concrete boots yet all ive done is start the mixer up tossed a bit of concrete into the bowl... so lets hear your thoughts sandgropers... get the mix happening... may have to up the mixer to an agi truck but what the heck!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

What about asking Mike (Misan Timbers) if he would be interested in getting involved? Whether that be hosting a meet at his place or atending one somewhere else? Just a thought!
I'm happy to south the Mandurah or posibly further, overnighter camping or the like is do-able.
Also happy to help with the organisation.

Just a idea.....
If we have four weeks up our sleeve before the day, give a small challenge......
Options A or B:confused:
A....woodworkers small piece of furniture no bigger than their eski......LOL
B.....turners item to fit inside a stubby holder.....LOL
that give pleanty of scope....
Novel Idea....
why not...
KerryDon't think you're playing it safe by walking in the middle of the road.....that's the surest way to get hit by traffic coming from both ways!
I'm passionate about woodwork.......making Sawdust again & loving it!

YOU Derek my man were ALWAYS coming!!... no matter what else you have or had planned YOU WILL BE THERE!! I mean I have some seriously blunt chisels in absolute dire need of the Derek Cohen touch
Interest needs enhancing a tad I think??? doesnt seem like many West Aussies feel the need for a woodnut and woodboob meet and greet... sigh
Aah well maybe the four of us can get together and make a mess of somthin?? Well heck if I can do that on my own imagine the damage I can do with 3 others!!!
aah well I will sit back and wait and see what happensBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

I reackon, give it a couple of days. Some members only log on every couple of days or so. By Wednesday/Thursday, we should have a better idea of numbers.

Count me in. I can't match Derek's skills but I'm very good at asking questions that make others sound very knowledgeable.

No worries Gaz no worries just tryin to wake em up is all
Larry we should do well... you ask the questions that make others sound knowledgable and I answer the questions with a sound that is unknowledgable.
Sometimes I just jag it and happen to slip and slide upon the right answer without even thinking (a thing that for the life of me I cant work out how to do or why anyone would even want to... thinking that is!)
Sometimes I stuff it and make a right royal cockup of the answer ...
Sometimes I get tongue tied and all shy and cant for the life of me think of a single intelligent thing to say other than "oh shyte oh shyte oh shyte" which does not sound very intellegent but actually is when you consider the alternative answer to the question that for modesty sake cannot be repeated here
AND sometimes.. well sometimes... somtimes mate I answer the question with a question that gets you thinkin and so you come up with the answer to your own question which I didnt know the answer to in the first place so in the end you answer my questions which by the way were originally your questions!!
We'll do right well mate!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Let's know when and where.

I'd like to come, as long as it's not the second weekend in Dec.

Name a date and I will try to work it in to my schedule.
I made the mistake of retiring last year and, since then, have no time for anything. How did I have time to work for a living?
I am in Albany so anywhere on the west coast will almost certainly involve one, if not two nights away.
Rob.
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

I may be interested depending on the date. I live close to " Lord of the Manor of Upper Legover" , so maybe we can arrange co-travel also possibly with some others.

You may now consider the tone to be officially lowered.
It has just occurred to me that this gathering would be enhanced a bit if we all came away with a copy of the Code of Practice. Once we have a date, venue and an idea of numbers, I'll print off and bind the requisite copies of the Code for distribution to attendees on the day.
Be there or miss out!
