    Very well Doug.

As I had my monthly meeting of my wood turning club I only arrived at about 12.45 pm, just in time to have some of the excellent lunch Gabby and his wife provided.

After that Neil demonstrated some casting, and it's a pleasure to hear and see an expert at work, followed by afternoon tea.

There were 8 of us, quite a few new ones, so a good turn out.

I personally got the answers to some of my casting questions and some wood so a great day.

Thanks Gabby for putting this on at such short notice.

    Peter.

Thanks Gab. You put on a good show. And thanks Neil for the quick tutorial in casting, I am sure it will save me a few $$$ in wasted materials because I tend to do things all guns blazing without forethought

The weather was nice all day. Only started raining as I exited the domain tunnel.

Dave, lots of olive at Tuscana olive grove.
They have pruned the olive trees very heavily and have 6x4 trailer loads for $50.00

Ok, Josh is in bed and I have a chance to reflect (and clean up a little)

Thanks all for the positive feedback....All in all I had a great time and by the sounds of it everyone else did as well.

A massive thanks to Neil (Dai Sensai) for answering all the questions which I'm sure are the standard questions asked by everyone wanting to 'give casting a crack'... The stories behind every 'don't do it this way because' would have to be my favorite part of your tutorials as without the build up as to why something goes wrong would just mean I would be bound to repeat the errors.....having the story helps me remember and gives me a theoretical slap over the top of the head just before I am about to do something stupid.

It was great to see a few new faces among the crowd (I'll call 8 a crowd). I hope Damien (HangmansNoose - apparently a lurker...but we will fix that) gained a bit of knowledge and realize that we're all here for a bit of fun and helping out where we can.

As far as the actual casting goes, I guess we will find out tomorrow when I crack the pressure pot...

Here are a few happy snaps of the day -

    PLEASE NOTE:

All get together stuff will from now on be in it's own new forum FORUM GET TOGETHERS' (FGT)

They will be entered monthly to save the massive post that has been going on for ages and is (for some) a bit confusing. Click on the link above or here to find the new forum and first announced FGT which is in October.

Thanks Neil for setting up the new forum. All we need now is for people to bookmark the site and navigate to it on a regular basis to keep up-yo-date with activities and venues.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a lurker. :P Who knows, I might post more in the future once the workshop is set up in the new house and the partner gets me to work on the masses of projects.

Thanks for hosting Gabriel and many thanks to the other woodies sharing their knowledge, anecdotes and not laughing at the newbie.

Big thanks to Gabriel for putting on the lunch and venue. I had a ball and it wa great to catch up with some members I haven't seen for a while.

I am in Melb till ~20 Oct, although not available this weekend nor weekend of 16 Oct, but could attend any others anyone wants to organise. I also have heaps of timber left so feel free to call in and have a look.
