Exclamation Migration of the Dingo crew!!

The missus decided today that shes "had enough of bein hot sweaty and this place" and now wants and "INTENDS" to move

So you ask were does she her bloody highness me lovelight me sweetheart and total owner of me heart want to go?... Tazzy or Kiwiland!!

I have tried to convince her that either place is just too bloody cold... lets go for a visit fine an dandy lets do it but live?... but shes adamant this time

One thing I will say right up front is that NEITHER of us have been to either place and neither of us know tiddlysquat about either place either!!

As I said to her if she wants cold then lets move to Nova Scotia for cryin out loud thats COLD!!... Id have money that we'd be back within a month!! but no she wants Tazzy or New Zealand

So I said Id ask here and see what yous mob reckoned would be good places to start searchin for properties for sale... hey!! We can move an live in NZ without becoming Kiwis cant we??

Anyways any pointers would be helpfull... shes presently saying we will head over there for a looksee in around March April... so its pretty definant... at this stage hell shes a flamin sheila! and we have just had our second grandchild so this could all blow over when Iyzsibelle comes to visit or little Lukas comes over tomorrow... Im damned if I know if I could move that far from the little buggars!

Anyway hints tips and thoughts are all welcome

    Cheers!
Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Dingo, what can I say...MLC Mid Life Crises? It'll pass.

Talk one of the kids into asking her to babysit. Then get them to make a big deal about having family close by for support.

You have to use underhanded psychology because rational argument won't cut it.

If you get to Tassie get her to mention, in public, Australia as a separate place - the locals will make themselves so disagreeable she won't want to live there. Stuff like: "We're only here for a short visit. We are going back to Australia next week".
If you go to NZ be sure to visit only the most Southern part - it's nearly in Antartica, and you need one leg shorter than the other to walk round the mountainous districts.
Both are too beautiful for short visits and realistic decisions about shifting. The culture shock is just too great for 'normal' people, and you can tell her the law, in both places, won't allow diingo keeping. Play on the 'loss' of close association with the family.
    Mate, your shed will freeze.

Tassies a bit colder than Melbourne.

Kiwiland's a beauitiful place but it's bluddy terribly cold in winter.

Aim at tassie, though its a bit on the too cold side.

The best climate I've found is southwest victoria.
On average its not as cold as Melbourne in the winter nor as hot in summer. We've had a few hot days this summer but its usually about 20 to 25.
We don't get many single digit days in winter.
I've forgotten what a frost looks like.
As fer living in the snow in tassie or NZ , brrrrr

I agree with masoth, Christopha and Bleedin Thumb. Tactics are importants here. I suggest supportive procrastination so that the only time you can go for a looksee is in July/August. Then keep an eye on the Bureau's forecasts and get a week which is wet AND windy AND COLDDDD. Then get tips from forumites as to the unfriendliest pub landlord, motel owner and cafe owner in each of the places you are going and you should be safely ensconsed in WA for years....
    Cheers

Having lived in both, here's a summary:
    • Both are islands, in or near the 'Roaring Forties' - bloody windy, often cool to cold. Any day that reaches 25° is wonderful.
    • Both have unique and beautiful scenery
    • Both are laid back, though stay well away from Auckland
    • House prices are still very affordable in Tas - NZ is outrageous, easily double Tas prices. Someone recently paid $6m+ for a block on the water at Mt Maunganui
    • It's generally cheaper to fly out of NZ - all airlines rip ya flying across the Bass strait
    • It would take 6 weeks or more to have a quick look at NZ, you could do this in 3 weeks in Tas
    • Both are a bloody loooong way from where you're at - Bali is closer!
    • PM me if you have specific questions

Don't go to Tassie. Look what happenned to the Tasmanian Tiger .......... he disappeared.
I don't think they would take kindly to a dingo moving in.

    Hi Shane,

TassieKiwi's got it right on! The property prices in NZ at the moment are sky high. Februrary & March are the warmest months in NZ's climate, so my NZ Uncle said last week. Definitely 6 weeks plus to see NZ. So I'd go for Tassie too.

    Good luck!

    cheers
    Wendy

    TASSIE IS NOT BLOODY COLD!!!!!
It makes my f$$$%%%^g blood boil when people say it is.
We have 4 seasons - count 'em - 4. And all in 1 year.
    They're called:
Spring - sometimes wet, sometimes windy but usually sunny and cool. temp range - 10c - 18c
Summer - bloody hot - sometimes a shower or two and maybe cooler temp but usually beautiful warm weather. temp range - 14c - 30c (sometimes as high as 35 -38)
Autumn - usually calm, mild and sunny (Tuna, Mako and Marlin season) 10c - 20c
Winter - coastal climes usually cool, moderate rain. Snow in the highlands. temp range - Coastal 5c- 14c; Inland minus 2c - plus 10c, Highlands minus 2c - plus 8c.

There are beaches everywhere, fishing, boating on the beautiful Derwent. Nowhere significant or important is more than an hour away. The perfect life.

Melbourne and Canberra get colder considering their locality.
New Zealand smells of sheep flatulence.
So, the obvious place for Dingo clan is Tassie. You're very welcome mate.
People who have never been here and claim to know our climate have no idea. I wear a t-shirt all year and only wear shoes in winter - crocks (sandals) the rest of the year.
If you never made a mistake, you never made anything!

Are you planning to work wherever you move to is this a retirement move? I would think that the availability of jobs would be a major factor.

Talking to my neighbours over the weekend - who are Tasswegians and plan to retire to Tassie - there is no work in Tassie. Hence they are in Canberra. One is a teacher and the other works in communications (radio, telephony, digital TV, etc).

    Cheers

Mate, everyone knows your neck of the woods is another planet. I live on the sunny, always mild, beachside suburb of Bellerive.
