Stay safe Rusty with the continued emergency at Bell/Bilpin....
Faulconbridge out near the Norman Lindsay Gallery is now also under emergency orders.....That's 2-4kms east from us.
The emergency is for Faulconbridge, Springwood, Winmalee, Valley Heights, Warrimoo....
We have friends at Winmalee who have lost everything and it's just so hard to get one's head around it all; over 200 houses gone & over 100 damaged.
PLEASE, If you pray, PRAY FOR RAIN and lots of it......Cheers, crowie

I'm dismayed that we haven't heard from Springwood / Winmalee colleagues. Mates in the firies are telling some very scary stories.

NSW Fires
There is a team of us flying out for nights. We start tomorrow night. I know some from Jerilderie. I imagine from all over the state. We fly out from Deniliquin. Not sure if I will have coverage in the fire zone or where I sleep during the day but will try to give news from whatever section I happen to be on.

Thanks Brett.
No idea where I'll be stationed yet. We fly out at 3pm tomorrow.
Staying in dorms. Again - don't know what it will be like. If I can't sleep I might just take you up on that offer. The food should be good ..... I hope. If not, another excuse to head your way.
Appreciate the offer

The only good thing from the Newcastle fires is the police have arrested 4 people who lit separate fires and all have been charged , some have even confessed. The sad thing though is they range from 11 to 16 years of age.

My eldest sister lives on the eastern side of Katoomba. She lives on the high side of the then there are houses and behind them is bush. I tried to ring her yesterday afternoon and again tonight to see how she is. But both times the phone has rung out. I am assuming that the fires have disrupted the pnone lines so I am not overly concerned that she may be in trouble (no news is good news). She works for Blue Mountains Shire Council so she may have been pressed into a response centre set up by the powers that be. Last time when the fires were bad down there she was in a response centre so I am thinking she may be just too busy.
Just on the outskirts of our village there was an out break yesterday morning but our local blokes got it out OK by night fall. The bush around us here is very dry so a small spark will get away very smartly and could be hard to roundup.
Just want to say a BIG THANKS to all the volunteers, not only the Fireys but also the ones who make sandwiches and brew the tea you are all very important!!!!Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

All the best
To all the forumites in the Blue Mountains and other bushfire threatened places in NSW, my best wishes for a safe outcome of this terrible conflagration. I wish I could collect al this rain on the Mornington Peninsula and send it up there. Rain here for the next 3 or 4 days. Probably not good for the summer as it is very green at the moment and the MP has been designated as being particularly prone to fire this season. Cleaned my gutters out today but where I live everyone has a forest of eucalypt and natives in their yard. I'll be heading straight to the beach if we get into trouble - only 2 mins by car.
Anyway, I truly hope everyone stays safe.
Cheers
Mike
