| | NZ Rimu Pine old furniture free We have two old rimu dressers to give away to any club man that can do something with the timber, rather than chucking it out.
The timber is dry and straight, the boards av 6" by 2'6" to 3'6" case size, but the structure which is sound has never the less opened between boards to leave open gaps.
I have been advised by the overseer the space is needed and I won't be doing anything with it for some time (if ever).
Sorry no photos as what passed for a digital camera died, but you can contact me via this forum contact, email enclosing land line phone#
Located Boronia area Melb.
Oh, and by the way Neil OK'd this post.

| | I would take this in a heart beat. If I had the means of getting it to were I live. Rimu is highly valued by NZ cabinet makers. Belong to the Podocarpaceae family like our Huon and Celery Top Pines. |

| | It seems the promised collection fell through. Don't know, haven't heard. So one more general call before disposal.

| | If I was 2600 kilometers closer I would be interested. Rimu is a nice timber and it should be saved.
Most of our house is made of Rimu including the floor . When the house was built 100 years ago Rimu was used like pine is now. |

| | Yes BamBam, When I was at school, (in NZ) some 50 years ago, rimu was practically the only timber we used in the woodworking class. A lot of cheap furniture of the day was rimu made much like the pine excesses of the last 20 years. Pruning no doubt led to the more wide spread use of radiata board. Till now of course the balance is reversed with what was once common now quite rare. |

| | For me, the image of Rimu has been permanently marred by the vast quantity of ugly 90's style furniture made from recycled rimu that you find absolutely everywhere over here.
It's a shame, because it can be a nice timber if you get a well figured piece. It's just been completely overused! | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
