Has New Scam?
I received an email today from one of our forum members and for some reason I became suspicious namely because his emails are addressed to more than one address. It was an invitation to view a One Drive file with a weird name and luckily I did not bite. I emailed the supposed sender and found that he had not sent it so I guess it is some sort of scam but it sure looks good on the surface. The addressing to the link does not look suspicious to me but I wouldn't know what it is supposed to be. Others may have had this but it is a new one on me, the problem is I can't report it as spam as that will block all mail from him, is there a way around this?
PS: The header is wrong, don't ask me why.CHRIS

Same, as above.
Looked the goods to me, but the clincher was giving away the login details including passwords.

Hi,
I also got it and nearly fell for it, but I was a bit sus and was not willing to load stuff to view it, so waited developments.
Glade I did.

I got that email today as well. It immediately looked suspect and I deleted it.
If you get an email from someone you trust but it looks even a little bit sus, delete it. If it was a genuine email that you needed to respond to, the sender will be in touch.
I'd say the sender has been hacked. Probably just the contact list but it would be worth running some antivirus and malware scans. Those were the droids I was looking for.

I got it too at my work address which straight away raised my suspicion because I didn't think he even had it (but I could be wrong on that). I emailed back from another address which also had the email and was told it was okay. I am assuming that he didn't know it was a problem at the time. I still resisted opening it and when I got home tonight had an email saying to delete it.
I am always very wary with emails, but the lowlife out there are making it harder and harder to decipher good from bad.

These sorts of phishing emails my son (as an IT security operative) sends to people working inside an org or company to test staff IT security awareness. He typically "scores" with about 5% of workers and 10% of senior management!

Sorry for the delayed response to this problem. Been off line all day today. Thanks Acco for calling me.
Please send PM or email me with the username of the member(s) the email came from, along with the full email, links and all. Maybe I can get to the bottom of it or Steven can.
However if it was from Peter (crowie)
He appears to have his contact list or recent mail list hacked.
Happened to me about 12 months ago, email scam sent to around 30 of our distributors. Has nothing to do with the forums just that some members are in his contacts.
Looks like Peter has sent email to those in his contacts warning to ignore those emails.
Cheers - Neil
PS Definitely not a forum problem but a problem for Crowie or anyone else who gets hacked by the same lowlife mongrels who are intent on doing this sort of thing.KEEP A LID ON THE GARBAGE... Report spam, scams, and inappropriate posts, PMs and Blogs.

Yes ladies and gents.
Someone got into my email contact list.
Once I was aware of it I did send over 100 emails to regular contacts and friends.
Next step was to change my password followed by contacting Yahoo.
The Yahoo Customerservice person was great; cleaning up some filters that had been added to me email account and resetting it.
I’m running the Eset online scanner now on the computers.
Apologies to all for any inconvenience; it’s taken me the whole afternoon to get it sorted.
As Neil said, low act by some mongrels.
Cheers peter

The other thing to watch out for is if your Yahoo account password was shared with any other services. You need to change them all. The crackers will now try a whole bunch of other systems that you may or may not use with the same kinds of username in the hope that one might stick.
I used to do stupid stuff with similar passwords, but now use a password vault for my rarely entered password, and remember only a few of them.
Of course, then I do what I did at work and put in supposedly easy to remember passphrase for a new system and promptly forgot the exact set of words the next day.
Since I now have to get somebody to reset it for me, which involves writing an email in a foreign language to ask them (and I need help with the translation), it's quite embarrassing.
Much like the time when I deliberately scrambled my internet banking challenge questions (because the default prompts are all otherwise readily discoverable for anybody with a bit of time), but my somewhat obscure notes were not quite good enough for me to remember the exact answers.
Forgetfully,
Iain

It did not occur to me it had anything to do with the forums, I just thought it a good way to warn members that a fellow forumite might have unknowingly sent emails to them.
