    Default Another Scam scenario

You may be aware of this one but earlier this afternoon I was rung by a male with a very distinguished voice purporting to be from NAB. He called me by name and after the usual pleasantries asked was it correct that I was transferring a certain amount of money from my account today. When I replied that I did not have an account with said bank there was instant silence.

    Default Yet Another Scam

This evening about 6 o'clock, I had a call from a "Les" claiming to be from a company called "Energy Expert" to say I had an amount outstanding on my electricity account and I risked disconnection.
I knew immediately it was a scam.
I did not listen to all his rambling as it was a time wasting call.
Caller was unable to give me an address to send cheque, wanting an online transfer. While they claimed they knew my energy provider, (guess perhaps) they quoted an incorrect account number.

But the big give away is on my last account I paid more than the required amount so I would be in credit.

I don't answer calls not in my phone book so if they don't leave a verbal message I don't call back.

I agree with mature one. The only drawback I find is that some of my neighbours have unlisted numbers - I don't answer those either - but have missed out on some parties as a result!

The vast number of calls on our landline are attempted scams. The worrying thing is that those calls are also increasing on my mobile.

As with all of this kind of crap these days I just tell them that I'm waiting on a transfer of $5million from a Nigerian Prince who's found himself in a bit of bother and that once the money's cleared they'll be first cab off the rank.

Yes, I am still waiting to be arrested for non-payment.

I blocked all overseas calls on our landline and voila! instant silence on the scam call front. I never got calls from OS anyway except for scams so nothing is lost.

When the NBN was rolled out in my area I had to buy a new phone that was compatible with the NBN system. I opted for a Telstra Call Guardian phone as it was pretty cheap. This phone system answers and asks the caller to say their name and press the hash key then it rings my phone. I answer the phone and the recording says, "you have a call from XXXXXX". I then have the option of answering the call once by pressing "1" or always accepting this caller by pressing "2". Or hanging up to deny a conversation.

Only once has a charity or scam caller taken the time to say their name, press hash and stay on the line for me to answer or deny the call.
