Default Places to go in SE QLD area

    Hi there

Thinking of heading away for the weekend in early October (wedding anniversary) and was wondering if any of you know of wood, art, craft etc places to visit in the SE QLD or northern NSW area that we might be able to visit.

Been to Eumundi markets a few times already - love it though.

We'd be staying over a Saturday night, probably the 1st and 2nd of October - anything on that you know of?

    Cheers
    Dan

Have a look what's on offer in Springbrook.

We had a great weekend away there some time ago!

Gallery Walk at Mt Tamborine (behind the Gold Coast) and Maleny (behind the Sunshine Coast) have some nice galleries and studios you can visit.
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

    Hi Dan.

Best art/craft market on the Qld side in the far south IMHO is the Tamborine markets at the showgrounds, it's on every second Sunday of the month in the morning. Tamborine Mountain also have a lot of touristy shops with art/crafts.

There are also markets every Sunday at Nerang, but nowhere near as good. There is a moving market that goes to Broadbeach, Coolangatta and other locations, but I'm not sure of the roster.

On the NSW side, there are also moving markets usually on Sundays that are on a roster travelling from Kingscliff to Byron Bay, I just don't know the details. There are web sites around on markets, so give them a try.

Feel free to call in for a cuppa if your passing Nerang, just PM me for the address.

    Hope this helps.
    Neil

    Hi Dan and Tom,
    Maleny area is wonderful
Mt Tambourine is just plain beautiful
haven't tried Springbrook so it's going on my list.

Just did a google of Springbook and it looks amazing. I think Mt Tamborine/Springbrook area is on the list for this year (done the Maleny, Eumundi thing - very nice).

So those that have been - do you think the markets on the last Sunday of the month or the ones on the 2nd Sunday of the month are better for local arts and crafts?

    Thanks guys!

    Cheers

    G'day Dan Tom,

What about the Riverside markets and the market at Southbank? Both held on Sundays but can't remember if they're every 2nd Sunday etc.

There's also a stack of good shops to check out on a Saturday morning and enjoy a coffee as you head up and down the shops at Red Hill, also Caxton St. for some good food, both within walking distance.

(This thread is making me badly homesick )
I make things, I just take a long time.

Dan Tom, go down to the Tweed(God's Country) and climb Mt Warning, have a counter lunch at the Tumbulgum pub, go to Tall Timbers at Condong and check out the furniture and have a cuppa and if you have time go done to Mullumbimby to Stan's and check out all his timber.
    Cheers

    Dan and Tom,
if you do go to Mt Tamborine check out the distillery The bottles are rather expesive (but very, very nice). You can do a tasting there (cost $5 a few years ago) and he pours out very generous measures of all his liqueurs (make sure you have a designated driver, or that you've nowhere to go for a few hours afterwards )
