I thought as much.
We have just come back from tassie and taking the car there was a big mistake. Would have been cheaper and easier if we'd flown and rented...I'd just rather drive NZ with my own ute and slide on rather than rent a motorhome.
Thank you for the replies.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.
We live in a free country. We have freedom of choice. You can choose to agree with me, or you can choose to be wrong.
Wait! No one told you your government was a sitcom?

I have been told that the Tasman is the most expensive bit of water in the world to get stuff shipped over and i believe it. I could air freight a cyclone from the US for nearly the same price as shipping a 125cc bike motor from NZ to Oz.

I have to send documents around Aus and NZ quite frequently. Aus Post is expensive and their couriers often leave a 'collect at nearest post office' card rather than making much effort to deliver.
Things are not going to get much better unless we support more competition to Aus Post.
So for the last 2+ years we have been using Office Works for within Aus. Depot to door. Its good.
One great thing is that Office Works is open long hours.
However if you go coast to coast it can take 3 weeks or more. This doesn't work for us. Now when we send stuff to WA it is sent overnight via Aus Post. However that means time out of the business day and so it's only used out of necessity.
Shipping bulk stuff in either direction over the Tasman is so expensive thanks to the unions. It's so expensive that it's often easier to simply buy new in the other country. It's a scandal when you consider both countries are islands and must move things overseas to survive.

I cant comment as to the cost, cause I didn't pay any postage, but I got a fair size package sent from South Aussie. It left SA after 9 am Monday and was sitting on my doorstep when I got home the next day. I was pretty impressed with Star Track for speed.
If you find you have dug yourself a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
I just finished child-proofing our house - but they still get inside.
