    Default Postage from US

Some good news is that Rockler in the US have added 1st class international post to their postage choice. This dramatically reduces what was in many cases prohibitive postal charges from them.

Very good news. Maybe someone in Rockler realises that parity could lead to great sales from downunder.

Thanks for the heads up Chrism3 - this was one of the few o/s suppliers I didn't bother with in the past due to freight issues.

I''ve already been poring over their online catalogue seeking stuff that would be economical to post here !!

Of course, they may still send your package to Austria.....(everything outside the 12 mile limit is a bit vague and fuzzy to some U.S. companies).....

Given that they're still quoting $84 to ship the Beadlock kit and a router bit via Priority Mail , they're now just a joke with a slightly less funny punchline...

I have noticed the First Class option appear on some carts I am pricing but not on others and I seem to then be stuck with all the expensive options. It seems there are some rules around what can go with the First Class option or their calculator is a little 'random'

I placed an order a couple of days ago for some lightweight items, and found that the estimate for 1st class mail was almost $10 more than the actual confirmed cost. They did admit to some teething problems, but fortunately in my favour.
I would imagine that there are restrictions on size/weight of what can be posted, just as there are with Australia Post within Australia.
Rockler will confirm postage cost before processing the order, and give you the opportunity to back out.

Not sure if this is relative or not but...... all parcels weighing more than 500gm posted from Aus to USA now incur a $9 surcharge. Something to do with terrorism, but I reckon it's just a ploy by the US Postal Service to rake in more money.

This is a US Postal Service charge, not an Australia Post charge.

Few years ago we used to get a couple of cubic metres of product shipped from LA to the East coast for a few hundred dollars, since 9/11 the charges have rocketed up and are now around $2,000 +. That and the strong Au $ at the moment makes it much harder too be competitive.

    Cheers - Neil

    Where, where????

I'd be up for some JET parallel clamps too, since none of my local JET resellers actually stock the damned things.....

Is there a thread anywhere about this group buy?

    Cheers

I bought some Jet clamps from Toolking.com. Not super cheap but as you said, it is so hard to get them.

Makes you wonder why JET Australia bother advertising them in just about every issue of every local woodworking magazine......

If I'm going to have to pay freight to buy these clamps from interstate, I figure I may as well save some money buying them direct from the US !

A group buy would be the way to go if enough people are interested.

I rang Woodworking Warehouse (Woodworking Warehouse - Home) just before Xmas and they reckon they had some at their warehouse. Not sure what sizes though. When I purchased my 40" clamps I remember it working out to be roughly the same as buying it here. With parity it might be a little better now.

metester - Toolking.com certainly has a good price on the JET parallel clamp framing kit !

Can I ask if this is what you purchased, and if so what were the freight charges like?? I guess it depends whether they will ship by USPS, or insist on UPS/Fedex for overseas shipments....

    Cheers
