Default Good to see a revamped WW SHOP back in operation.

I do remember Ross from the days he first started out in Cannington ,I bought a machine off of him when he was just setting up.He always had a good approach to business always fair to deal with as is his brother James up in Carba-Tec in Balcatta.

The south side of Perth needs this type of Business back ,therefore I wish Ross ,Simon & Hague in Melbourne, all the best for the future.

    Cheers

Is there a connection between the online operator www.benchstandard.com and Timbecon?

I also jumped to the same conclusion with Hague. Most of the time I'm wrong though...

Great to see Timbecon revitalised. Being in Sydney, I only used to see you at the wood shows. Bought my radial arm drill press from you.

Hopefully you expand further up the east coast. Sydney need you.

This is great news for everyone. If the quality of the gear that will be stocked by the new Timbecon is a good as that currently being sold by Hague, it will be a very welcome addition to the market place. I remember those days when Timbecon was owned by your family, and it was great to see your stand at the Wood shows. Good luck with the venture.

Russell, that is wonderful news that your family is pulling together. Your Dad must be proud.
    All the best.

In just the shows I did I could see the drop in attendance at the shows. The cost of the space at the shows was enormous.
The business had HUGE investments in stock, transport, travel and staffing for the shows. We used to take 8-9 from WA and then hire locals for cashiers, maybe 2-3 more. There were 4 x 40 ft containers of stock stored in the east which were moved from show to show and then stored until the following year, when they were topped up with stock sent from WA ready for the next round of shows...
I did only one show with the new owner.

Wonder if you were the bloke that made me go home with lighter pockets.

    Hi All.

Yes I am the other brother. I started Bench Standard on my own late last year and have been working at building that business up in Melbourne. You may notice that some of the brands stocked here were available through Timbecon - such as Milescraft and Incra, as well as the router bit range which is from the same manufacturer that we used to sell under the Torquata name for around 7 - 8 years.

When I discovered that Timbecon had gone into liquidation late last week we discussed the option of buying the IP from the receivers and made a decision that we would do this and bring Timbecon back as a similar business to how we left it in 2007.

The "new" Timbecon will not be identical to the old one, times have changed and so has the availability of product - new Milescraft items, the iGaging range and other sourced products through the house Baladonia brand will replace products that were previously available at Timbecon and are significant improvement over what we used to offer (well I think so anyway). There are also products I am aware of that are not currently available that will replace old Timbecon products.

However many things will be brought back - an updated Sherwood range of machinery, likely Crown distribution and a number of other products sourced from Europe, the US and Japan that we were importing. So in essence we will be bringing back the vision of Timbecon but updated to 2014.

Going from a standing start this will all take time, the current Melbourne premises is unsuitable for retail at the moment and needs construction work before we can work on opening the showroom, so this opening will likely take effect late this year, and imported product can take anywhere from 3-8 months to land from date of order. We have a lot of work to do before we can order as well as you can imagine.

We are working on getting a Perth premises up and operating as quickly as possible though and of course locally-sourced products will quickly come back and be available. Any and all information about changes will be posted on the Timbecon website once its up and running again in the next day or so.

We will be shutting down Bench Standard and integrating it into Timbecon. Any outstanding issues such as the frequent shopper system, credits, warranty etc. will be seamlessly transferred from Bench Std to Timbecon. The full range at current pricing will also move across. You will continue to be able to order through Bench Standard until we have completed website integration which we hope to be done by the end of October. From that point on, we will only maintain one website (www.timbecon.com.au) with a redirect on www.benchstandard.com.

We will also honour any outstanding issues from the previous Timbecon time(s) as Simon advised.

If you want any more info or have any further queries, you can always contact me (1300 782 652 or [email protected]). We are pretty busy at the moment and also have many issues to resolve before we can get cracking again so we will help as best we can in the interim till we get our feet on the ground.

    Many thanks,

    Hague.

Ahhh, so that's who I can blame for spending $130 I didn't mean to spend at that stand at the Canberra Wood Show!

Great news Hague. I've been a fan of Bench Standard since the Sydney show, and spent more at the Canberra show. Looking forward to seeing Timbecon back, and often.
