Yep they're still around http://www.timbecon.com.au
I've been in there a couple of times in the last few weeks and it has always been very quiet.
Looks like they're running down their stock so I've have had to get stuff in which they have done fairly quickly.

One of my customers came in on Saturday morning and told me that he had been to Timbecon a couple of days ago and the Receivers had moved in and closed the doors. The guy he spoke to at the door said they were working through the accounts and stock.

I'm afraid Timbecon appear to have closed .... or moved ? :-(
I popped in yesterday to get some bits.
Front door definitiely locked. Shelves are empty. Record storage boxes appear to be the only thing left inside.
Very sad. (

Well that really gives me the pips. I still had ~$100 worth of vouchers from a retirement present I hadn't redeemed from them.

That's a bit sad...
I did a couple of years worth of wood shows with the old owners as a demonstrator.
The old owners sold to the current one when they felt that had taken the business as far as they could, and it needed some new ideas and fresh drive.
In just the shows I did I could see the drop in attendance at the shows. The cost of the space at the shows was enormous.
The business had HUGE investments in stock, transport, travel and staffing for the shows. We used to take 8-9 from WA and then hire locals for cashiers, maybe 2-3 more. There were 4 x 40 ft containers of stock stored in the east which were moved from show to show and then stored until the following year, when they were topped up with stock sent from WA ready for the next round of shows...
I did only one show with the new owner.

I was in a tool shop (not just WW shop) a few weeks back and the owner of that shop told me this was coming. He had some inside info. About 10 years ago Timbecom was a pretty decent business. A real shame as it's demise means less competition.

All is not lost!
Hi BobL
Yes, Timbecon has gone into receivership , but as of today it has been bought back by the original owner, Ross Gobby (my father). The shop will be reopening in Perth in a couple of weeks in Canning Vale and opening a new branch in Melbourne. I am not sure of the exact details just yet as it is all still being sorted out, but that is what is happening.
Regarding your gift vouchers, they will still be honoured so please don't worry about that. The same with warranty claims. The 5yr warranty on Sherwood machines is still good with your receipt.
My brother Hague will be running the Melbourne branch and has been doing product development on his own and has sourced a lot of new products. I've seen some of it and the quality of the stuff he has looks awesome. There is a lot of stuff out of the USA and other places. I don't know all of the products and brands that will be stocked yet but I know they will have some of the brands we used to have (because they have asked me to demo them at the Woodshows next year) but the website will be up and running fairly soon so keep an eye out for that.
At the moment the stock levels are a bit low but I know that a shipment is being sorted out now and stock will increase steadily until it is back to a good level.
Keep an eye out guys, WE'RE BACK!!!

That's great news Simon especially for the WA woodworkers.
I have had great service from your family in the past and look forward to the re-birth of Timbecom and especially a Victorian presence.
Of recent times I tried to purchase items but as you say stock levels were low.
As they say "Good luck with your projects"Russell (aka Mulgabill)
