    Default Tradies only

    Just a quick thread.
Sydney tools opened today in Melbourne Blackburn.

Stoped by at about 4 today on the way home from work.
I have never seen so many Utes vans trucks in one place at the same time.
The place was a wash with tradies all eating free snags in bread.
Very obviously there still filling shelfs but I was surprised at the amount of power tools a bit of hand tools mainly tape measures spirit levels extra.
All the big name brands except Bosch surprisingly!
Note point all last week and this week I was receiving tex messages and mail and emails from Total Tools being invited to there tradies night tonight lol.
Price wise at Sydney tools seemed to be very reasonable.
So time will tell how they pan out but I would say there's some serious tool shopping to be had in Melbourne now.

    Cheers Matt

They have quite a reputation for their service up here. Although, establishing in a new city........for the first few months it might be a different story.

You mean will the service get better?

    I very much doubt it.

If you have a good relationship with Total Tools then I would keep fostering that with $$ spent.

I, on the other hand, will have a totally different mindset when Bunnings open up here early 2018. All we have had is Home Hardware, plus a tiny Mum & Dad outfit that have very little of what I need most of the time (I don't think they actually know what timber is). The Mitre 10 at Wentworth Falls (10 mins east) closed a couple of years ago although the one in Blackheath (10 mins west) is still open. It's a difficult shop though - almost always have to ask for help to find something.

Now it's not that I'm a big Bunnings fan, and it's not because the service at HH is poor (it's ok), it's because they have been gouging us for years, and it will be payback time. Of course they will drop their prices on the things that they gouge us for because they will have to (timber, just for a start), but I'm a little bit of a too little too late kinda vindictive sod.

It will be interesting to see which staff go to Bunnings. I pretty much know all the faces, even the weekend casuals.

The scary bit for HH is that the Bunnings site is diagonally opposite, 50 metres away. Apparently it will be one of their smaller style stores, but any competition is better than nothing.

I would not in any way consider my self loyal to Total Tools.
    That is for sure.
I will spend more on an item if I'm served with service.
I'm extremely (insert what words you will Brett [emoji12])with service from hardware groups and tool groups of late.
    And example.
I was in a large green shed placing a $6000 order for a job at the trade desk with delivery.
The young guy then explained I would need to check and verify the stock was on the shelf.
    For delivery the next day.
I haven't seem in around lately.
But I'm going way off topic and this is not the place to hear me moan [emoji12]

The problem I have with the Bunnies Stores, not Warehouse, is that if it's not in stock they'll order it in for you, provided you pay first, and takes a couple of weeks to come about 30 klicks?? If it's not quite what you wanted, you've wasted 2 weeks and tied up your money!!!

Bosch is lagging. I have a good collection of bosch battery tools now, but I just recently lashed out and bought some makita stuff, been wanting to do it for ages but was struggling to justify the cost. To be honest, anyone starting out in the battery tool market know would have to be mad to overlook makita. They have so many battery tools now that no other manufacturer comes close. The quality certainly exceeds my bosch gear, but at a price. I have a bosch battery circular saw, but the makita is leaps and bounds ahead. The straw the broke the camels back for me was the upcoming battery trimmer, still not available but I am waiting!!!

I really hope sydney tools opens up in Brisbane at some point. Trade tools has the monopoly now, but I have started spending more time at C&L Tool Centre lately (better service). We could certainly use a some more competition up here.

Matt, I've purchased a couple of items from a Brisbane company "C & L Tools" who advertise themselves as the largest independent tool store... https://www.cltoolcentre.com.au/
They have a huge range and what looks like trade quality tools & machinery and at some pretty competitive pricing including Bosch.
We have Sydney Tools, Gasweld & Total Tools all in Penrith but none seen to have the range of "C & L Tools"..
    Cheers, Peter

I was at the Sydney tools opening the other day too. Having just replaced $5000 of tools through insurance that were stolen (I'm a chippy) I'm down with prices at the moment. Despite all the sale signs at Sydney tools, the prices were no better than what bunnings or total tools offers.
