That's not good Greg, not being able to put photos up on the forum...

I hope Neil and Steve are onto it as Uncle Al has suggested....

I'm hoping to put up some photos from my attendance at the wood show tomorrow....

I've sent an email to Neil to ask the question...

    Hi all,

Sorry if this isn't really the right place for this. I'm trying to get a pass from the wife to head to the Sydney wood show (I'm in Newcastle), mainly to have a look around as I've never been to one before.

But I'm also interested in getting a Gifkins dovetail jig and was wondering if I'm likely to get a better price at the show? Looking on their site, the Solo Beginner Pack is on sale for $345 instead of $465. not sure if this is a sale to coincide with the wood show or if they are generally "on sale"? I'm guessing the unit weighs about 5kg so imagine shipping would add a bit to the final price.

Just trying to gaze into a crystal ball and workout whether I'd be better off trying to grab one at the show or not. It might make the difference in whether I go.

    Any help would be appreciated.

If you are thinking about getting one, I'd head to the show whether you buy it there or not. After watching a couple of demos by Col, you'll pick up lots of tips and tricks that you won't get from the manual. The demos are great.

    This ^^

I looked at one of these quite a while back - I was interrupted by a house move that gained me a new workshop, and significantly changed my plans.

It is VERY worthwhile to go take a look in person before buying.

If you give Col a ring on 0411 283 802 I'm sure he'd be more than happy to confirm pricing for you. Tell him David from Albury sent you.

    Hi Guys & Girls,
Attended the Working with Wood show today. I must say that I was a bit disappointed at how small it was compared to other years.
I would also like to warn anybody going to the show over the weekend that there is a travel company selling time share there who will
demand money off you to go to one of their meetings where you will be given the hard sell. You have been warned!
Other than that, the show was wonderful and I picked up a you beaut Wood River low angle block plane - thanks for the help Jim!
    Cheers,
    Les

I bought one at a show a few years back and at the time, I believe it was the same price as on the website at the time, although I saved on postage. As others have stated, the real value is attending a live show and interacting with Col. I ended up watching three of his shows as I found it so useful.

That's very true Bauldy. Watching the shows and talking to people at the show has been priceless! I have been after a low angle block plane for a few years now and Jim Davey was very informative about what to look for and how to sharpen one to maintain a truly sharp tool that is a pleasure to use.

    Hi,
It is not happening, no pictures!
Isn't it just our luck pictures not working, just when there is a show and I have been looking forward to pictures for weeks.
I will have to ignore forum protocol and just take your word for it that the show is happening.
    Regards
    Hugh

Yeah, they sucked the wife in at a caravan & camping show a couple of years ago and we attended their presentation. If you have a spare $30,000 you don't need and can spare it to have a holiday occasionally then go for it.

In case anyone was interested, I heard from Col over the weekend and the price online is the same as the price they were selling them for at the show.

I went on Sunday. I missed having Screw It Screws and Timbecon there. But, if the new organiser didn't buy out the show then maybe we wouldn't have had one at all this year. So here's hoping it grows again.

The venue was good with the easy and free parking.

Other than that, great work on pulling it together, including a change of venue in a short time.
