but how many attempts would each contestant be permitted?
surely, an accidental cock-up can be allowed for by permitting a contestant another attempt. BTW, perhaps contestants should be expected to donate a gold coin per attempt? with an attempt defined as two practice cuts, and one "for real", with the contestant to nominate which slice is measured.
I'm not too fussed about flukes. Anyone who can fluke a sub-1.5 mm slice with an unfamiliar saw is, in my opinion, entitled to win.regards from Alberta, Canada

World sawing championships
I think Code4play,
Is saying you cut one piece of the side of the block.
Your piece is then marked with one side being the planed side other being the saw cut side.
The block is planed true again.
You then have another go and again we mark your cut and non cut side.
Then these two pieces are placed saw cut sides together(book matched sort of) and the entire thickness measured at the four corners and centre point.
With the verniers registered from the true and planned sides.
We're an average of these measures then halved are your measures.
Did I get that right does that make sense
Cheers Matt

Well, I'll volunteer my workshop. Have a stack of 6" thick Wandoo ready for your saws ... I'll time you

Sober persons might be considered to have an unfair advantage.

Well we seem to be getting a little interest now.
Derek if you were closer I would be putting my hand up straight way to GTG at your place.
So are we getting any interest here or just some light hearted wise cracks.
Which I'm also guilty off.
If I see enough interest I was tentatively thinking of an early December date.
Cheers Matt.
