My new camera.
My new Nikon D7000 arrived last Thursday. I took it for a walk around Lake Parramatta on Friday morning to see how things worked. It is a fair bit more complex than the Fuji S2 Pro that it replaces so I am not up to speed on many of the features. I am having trouble understanding how the auto focus system works. The camera selects from 39 points to focus , but it never seems to select the one I want. The user manual, as usual, is not all that helpful. I also need to set up the in camera sharpening, saturation atc. etc, to suit my taste. It will take a while.
Anyway, here are a few of the first to come out of the new toy.

Avery...I'm in the "same boat" that your in. Got my D7000 3 weeks ago - didn't even bother opening the included manual. Ordered "Mastering the Nikon D7000" by Darrell Young (Amazon.com).
He explains things a hell of a lot better the Nikon manual. I'm about a 1/3rd of the way through the book and picked up stuff I didn't know even existed.
BTW...good picsCheers,
Ed

Thanks for that information Ed. I will look that book up and see if I can get it locally.
I have been reading the Ken Rockwell site, he has a fairly easy to read user manual, but I am still pretty much in the dark about the focus controls. I think that the problem is more to do with my comprehension than the quality of the writing.

If your after the definitive guide for your Nikon you need to get the "Complete Guide to the Nikon D7000" by Thom Hogan.
Check it out HERE
Thom has written guides for almost all the DSLR Nikons & is regarded as the best at it. He explains all the camera & custom settings & why you should use this setting or that one.
He is a working professional photographer & his guides are written after absolutely flogging each model for several months. He is also rumoured to be a official Nikon tester, although he won't admit or deny it.
I bought my first guide for him when I bought my D70s & have bought 3 others, D300, D700 & the D3x. His site is a great source of info on anything Nikon too.
I was a qualified commercial\industrial photographer for several years & I find his guides invaluable.

Awesome piece of kit mate!
I got into photography a in September, my brother in law is a pro and between him and my missus they got me the D3100 which I know is not even in the same ball park as yours but I love taking pics with it. One day when I get more into it I will get something like the 7000.
