    Default Country Rodeo

Visiting family up in grain growing country for the annual Mullewa Muster.
It was raining all day so the lighting was poor.
I'm not really a fan of bucking bulls / horses and prefer taking photos of the cowgirls and horses.

    Great stuff mate.
I really like the shot of the skew with the wall eye.
Looks like a great day out.

    Cheers

Great photos. But... I will repeat the definition of a horse: "...dangerous at both ends and uncomfortable in the middle..."

That is also my point of view about them.
SWMBO has one and I steer well clear of it

Great set of pics. I really like the last one in the first posting, really shows the action and determination of horse and rider.

    Agreed Bob great shots!!!!
Looking at those American saddles reminded me of that Slim Dusty song about "cowboys" using American saddles....."how ever can you fall". He reckoned that with the high front with horn and very high back, they were like an armchair and just about impossible to "fall out" off the saddle

You managed to stop the action with pretty good sharpness too.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Thanks guys, for those that are interested the following technical info applies

    Canon 50D with L series F4 70 - 200 zoom with 1.4 x extender.
Very gloomy weather so ISO 400 - 800.
I took about 240 shots over 2 hours as it was raining on/off and I didn't have a lens/camera rain hood.
I have used a plastic bag in the past but I managed to get water everywhere so I didn't want to go through that again.
Only a few of those were the bucking bulls and horses.
This is a low rate for me compared to the 1500 shots in 1.5 hours at the Calgary stampede parade.

I would be interested to hear about anyones experience with rain hoods.

Great ser Bob. I did read somewhere that plastic bag works well in an emergency.
    Cheers Fred

A disposable shower cap purloined from a motel (packaged in a small box) is a handy thing to have in your pocket just in case the weather catches you out. The elastic sides hug the camera and lense, as long as you don't have a huge telephoto lense on at the time.

I have used plastic bags and they sort of worked but have also used a proper (rather expensive) rain hood and that was so much better especially with the telephoto.
I see there are reasonable looking hoods going for about $30 and I wonder if anyone has used them?
